Um, you listed 7, not 6.

I agree with your second (drugs) and fifth (age of consent) points, and the idea behind your fourth point.

It looks like we'll be out of Iraq in the not-too-distant future, so I'm not really worried about Iraq anymore.

Afghanistan (which is inextricably linked to the Taliban and to Al Qaida's presence in the border regions) is a different matter. We should, if anything, commit far greater manpower and resources to help stamp out the Taliban and extirpate Al Qaida.

Elements of the Patriot act make sense; the problem is oversight. So I'd modify (not cancel) the Patriot act and put the FISA court in charge, with extremely explicit rules.

Banning abortion will only endanger the lives of women; it won't reduce the number of abortions. Besides, federal law CANNOT ban abortion; there's no legitimate interstate commerce aspect to abortion, so abortion is a states rights issue. There's no chance in hell that 75% of the states would support a Constitutional Amendment banning abortion. The best (from an anti-abortion perspective) that could ever happen at a federal level would be overturning Roe v Wade. Then we'd have abortions legal in many states and illegal in many others. The no-abortion states would need to pass all sorts of big-brotherish laws to prevent pregnant women from crossing state lines to obtain abortions. It would get VERY ugly. Do you really want that?

I'd revamp the health care system to require insurance companies to offer comprehensive plans at group rates to anyone who applies. I'd also require insurance companies to offer a very basic, no-frills plan, again at group rates. I'd have the federal government grant a means-adjusted health-insurance income-tax credit such that everyone can afford health insurance.

I'd greatly liberalize immigration to the U.S.

I'd put in place an extremely generous system of taxpayer-funding of elections.

I'd place strict limits on gerrymandering. The current system is grossly unfair.

1.) End Social Security. People can do better by keeping their money and investing it on their own.
2.) Invest more in stem cell research. We have the technology to use stem cells that don't come from embryos, so there's really no point not to invest in it more.
3.) Get rid of our dependance on fossil fuels - move towards nuclear, solar, wind, gas, hydrogen.
4.) Get rid of the Electoral College. Popular vote should choose the Presidency.
5.) Fix prison overcrowding by removing people jailed for stupid things and making sure drug-dealers, murderers, and child predators serve their entire sentences, period.
6.) Significantly reduce/resturcture the welfare system. People will not strive to improve themselves if they are given everything for free. It keeps our nation weaker overall.

And that some people don't make enough to "save and invest" on their own. Social Security is a safety net so that people are not living through old age and dying in extreme poverty.

Abolish welfare for those who are capable of working, while pimping, while selling drugs, while robbing convenience stores. Also eliminate section 8 housing for that same class. Same rule would go for people who come into this country illegally, intending to have the government support them and their kids.
