I've tried www.cheaptickets.com, www.hotwired.com, www.lowestfare.com and of course, www.priceline.com

I'm planning to fly during this winter (right after Christmas) or during Thanksgiving... from Boston, MA to Tampa, FL

Even with those 'money-saving' sites, avg cost for roundtrip is about $300-400 now..

Am I missing something??? Shouldn't it be $200ish?? and I'm supposed to get it cheap for around $150ish??

Anyone with Connections please LET ME KNOW!!!

bring on the ATOT hotdeals effect!!

~andy<refuse to pay that ridiculous amount just to fly>

$300 for round trip doesn't sound bad... I'd guess $250 is what it normally costs - but now we have problems and you'll be paying for them.

with the way airlines need to fill up seats these days... it should be about a buck and a quarter!!! J/K.

I got a flight from Austin, TX (crappy little airport) straight to Chicago for $191. That's pretty groovy.

However... when I went to MIT... flying out of Logan was ALWAYS a rip... it always seemed to cost more than leaving out of Providence RI (about 1 hour away) or Manchester, NH (same).

Look to see if going a week or two before Christmas would make any difference. If so, then you might be stuck. When the planes are going to be full anyway (when you want to fly), the cheap fares aren't offered as much.

Sorry I can't help ya, but it's interesting that you can get flights to Europe for about $550 now (round-trip).

Dude, try Logan to Orlando International Airport (MCO), because US Airways has a hub in both airports, and Orlando is bigger, which usually = cheaper fares. I usually get 200 or lower. I mean, you gotta drive from Orlando to Tampa, but thats prob. 2 hours, max. Plus, if you plan it right, u can hit all the 1337 crap in orlando :D

heh. sounds damn cheap to me allready.

I was paying about $600 round trip to go from KY to MN once a month (to see the GF), and that was fairly cheap then. shrug.

People amaze me. They complain that airlines charge to much and they complain when after running on a razor thin profit margins need help to stay afloat.

You're travelling around the holidays. It's always more expensive to travel then.

Your travelling during the holidays, and after this major crisis in the airline industry, do you really have to ask such dumb questions?

I heard today there will be a whack of cheap deals but my travel agent gave us the news a couple days ago - it looks increasingly unlikely I'll be flying to Canada for Xmas. The prices are _INSANE_. Mrs. Skoorb got a cheaper-than-normal ticket from halifax down to huntsville in december, but for us to get to Newfoundland and back here it will cost us an additional $2100 US. Ridiculous! Plus I'm sure we'll have the bookings changed all over the place anyway so its just not a great time to fly. I'm not worried safety-wise but the logistics of holiday flying look bad for this year.

Airfares went up after the whole WTC thing....not to mention airfare during the holiday will be a lot higher than say a regular day. Oh, what day did you plan on going? I think my aunt who flies frequently told me that Tuesday-Thursdays will be cheapest.

If you had a seat on Flight11 from Boston-LA for $100, would you be happy? No you'd be dead.Count your blessings and deal with the changes affecting us all.

that actually sounds about right for that time of year...you MIGHT want to try heading to MCO (Orlando) instead of Tampa. From Logan to Tampa, I'd have to say you're probably going Northwest on a connector through DTW or MEM. That's why it's expensive.

If you go with a Delta flight, you may be able to get a direct to Orlando. I'm not 100% sure about that. You may have to connect @ Atlanta though, in which case you can catch a connector to Tampa.

If you go with a US Air Metrojet flight, you can get direct service to Orlando. MCO has a LOT, (85,000 passengers daily) of traffic, so you should be getting a better rate there.

Renting a car is cheap in FL, so the drive to Tampa on I4 wont be too expensive.

Last time (June) I went to Germany (from Colorado) I paid $354 for the Roundtrip.
I guess it will be much higher now after this tragedy.
