What 2x 1GB RAM of these choices

Crucial's UK prices for value 1GB RAM sticks have gone up somewhat in the last few weeks by about 25% so it isn't quite the good deal compared to everything it was before.

Now in fact Crucial Value is the same price as Corsair DDR 3200C2PT (as seen here)which runs at 2-3-2 (or typically 2.5-3-2 on AMD for some reason).

Now the memory give it's timings could follow one of two patterns - it could either be the same as the OCZ platinum Series which didn't overclock too well or else it could be like the Corsair Pro series which does. Both share the same timings.

It's that or else sticking with Crucial Value (at about £190 or so) or else Corsair Pro at £230 or Mushkin Blue 3200 (at £220) if they're still good ...or splashing out all the way to Crucial Ballistx at £250 poss £235 if I can use another discount ...heh

I'm looking to overclock these sticks to at least DDR480 if possibly as they will be for a future dual-core upgrade which will draw some benefit from the extra bandwidth.

mushkin bllue wouldn't be my choice anymore now that they added the pc3700 to their extrmem line. thats basically all the good chips from the hp blue pc3200 binned up for the extra $$, and who can blame them.

the new pc3700 is more than i'd like to spend @ 340/kit but its the only ram thats been shown to hit 250 @ cl2.5.

i'm looking for another kit myself. i'll probably end up with the ocz platinum or te patriot.

edit- i'm not really considering the corsair as it will likey end up on a dfi nf4 board.

Yeah DDR prices are going up and up atm.

Although there is some hope as places still do offers so basically I found those Corsair Plat C2PT for just shy of £194

The reason why I'm just about considering Corsair is I might be pairing it up with the Sapphire ATI Crossfire board - that's if it turns out to be at least a half decent overclocker.

Decent audio and passive cooling are hard to resist - that's my only hope.

Otherwise I'll probably go and buy some Crucial..

Thank you for replying guys.

On a side note perhaps the reason why Crucial prices are going up - more so than the seasonal average, is that they're implementing a new manufacturing process (I think a process shrink) and so are running low on inventory in the meantime. Here's hoping the new sticks will be better.

am I reading into the comments correctly that the corsair C2 stuff isnt working great on DFI nf4 boards, or is it NF4 boards generally?

undecided about ram and nf4 choice myself

Well I have a 2GB kit of OCZ Platinum EL Revision 2 in my DFI Ultra-D board and I have had some great luck with, I am very happy with the memory so far.

With any 1GB x 2 kit you aren't going to get the same performance from the memory as you would from a 512 x 2 kit, so you can't expect miracles.

Right now I am at 3 3 3 7 timings and 1t @ 232
