Was up guys, I was around here a while back but deleted my account.

I was wondering if you guys could help me find a good pair of 2.1 speakers that have great bass particularly around $150 or under? Not looking for 5.1 of course the lower the price the better, but I am willing to spend $150 as long as its worth it.

I just bought an $80 pair of Logitech 2.1 speakers and they sound like utter garbage. I want something with good, loud, solid base.

Thank you very much for your help guys.

I am sorry but the only good base I heard was in home stereo. Or like car subwoofer but I have no experience computer wise. I just want something legit for $150 not that will equal home entertainment center but loud enough for my room to enjoy the base and loudness, for gaming and music but I want something good, boss is very expensive. Not sure of any brands other than logitech but I want something better.

If you ask me you will have better luck assembling a passive bookshelf setup with Micca MB42x + Lepai T-amp that price bracket than any of the multimedia 2.1s that produces boomy fart sounds they call bass with terrible mids and highs.

Bigger drivers gives better sound quality. Usually. Especially if you want bass.

You could check out some studio monitors. No sub but you'll get decent sound quality. Add a sub later if you're on a budget. These Fostex ones aren't bad and frairly inexpensive.

Alternatively, pick up an old stereo amp and speakers. Can find some good deals on eBay. Speaker tech hasn't changed that much, so you can get some great ones cheap even if they're 30+ years old.

Where are you going to be in relation to the speakers? My 2.1 system is great for sitting at the computer, but they aren't for filling the entire house with sound. For feeding the room/house with sound (and a strong bass line), my music goes to the receiver. If you want better sound at the computer, you may want to invest in a nice set of headphones.

As mmntech mentioned, you generally need a large driver for strong bass output with a decent range, which also demands a good bit of power. Computer speakers are ok at this at close range, but it doesn't carry very far.

Having said that, the best 2.1 speakers I have ever owned were the Klipsch's:

I'm just trying to judge if it's possible to get the sound quality you want for your price range. I mean you were dissatisfied and called the Logitech 2.1 utter garbage. I'm about to set those up in my room (i've used them before though), and I can't think of anything that's a massive step up from that.

You could try:
Logitech Speaker System Z623

But I mean getting a quality 2.1 system at $150? I just am not sure you can get a massive step up in quality for only $70 more.

If you had said that the 2.1 system was lacking, just not good enough, or you wanted something better then ya I'd possibly have a suggestion but you said "Loud, Clear, good Bass" and I'm assuming you want a subwoofer in it and that just leaves you with very few options.

Me personally, I'd build the overnight sensations + purchase a lepai amp. That'd run you a little over your budget by a couple of dollars.

Then, I'd pick up a good subwoofer later, or build my own subwoofer based on the price range/cash you have at the time.

I'd also checked the used audio sections of audio forums where people have a good reputation for selling working speakers/parts.

It's just hard to judge what you want though because I said "I want Loud, Clear, with Good Bass" 7 years ago.

Now? Now I have Polk Monitor 70s, Some B&W Entry Level Speakers, that cost aroudn $1000 and it still sucks to my ears. I know now that I have to build every speaker by hand to get the quality level I actually want, and I wish I hadn't sunk $1500+ into all of the "step up" speakers I got during this time frame and instead had built right the first time around.

I still think your best bet is to find a place to test and find a sound you like first. That's what I always recommend. Or purchase something you can easily return (which is why I love Amazon Prime so much). So I'd recommend the Logitech Speaker System Z623 and if you don't like it, chances are your expectations are unrealistic for $150.

I've been using this Midiland S2 4100 system for years, and I absolutely love it. They're not made anymore, but occasionally you can find a used set online. Highly recommended, and used should be in your price range.

I went to a t-class amp that had a sub out, using some $49/pair polk audio R150 speakers and an old Onkyo HTIB 12" sub which sounded great...definitely better than any logitech speaker system.....

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2355837&highlight=

I have since upgraded to polk audio Monitor 45B ($150 pair at Newegg) and a 10" Polk Audio sub for $90 at Frys...I paid $80 for the T amp because it had a sub out but I imagine using the high level speaker outputs from the Sub with a T class amp without a sub out would be fine...

Pretty sure logitech doesn't have anything that would even come close to sound quality of this setup...

Logitech and "Loud, Clear, good Bass"? Loud yes. Clear and good? Heeeeeell no. Not even Promedias qualify from first hand experience. My ultra budget Swan M10 beats the living hell out of the Klipsch in every way possible for $80 for a slight reduction in low-end frequency range.

My take on bass is if you can't do it properly then don't even bother. I'll take any Fluance SX6s and Lepai amp for $150 over any multimedia speakers (garbage or not) anyday.
