What 19 inch LCD's have a glossy screen? I'm looking for non widescreen ones. Something that has a resolution of 1280x1024. I know the nec 90gx2 is, which is what I want but they don't make them anymore :-( but are their any others? I'm at the point where I am willing to trade my nec 20wmgx2 for a 90gx2 with someone :) and that's no joke....

The way my monitor sits, there's no glare at all, regardless of the lighting situation.

Just puttin' it out there in case...you know...you rearranging things at some point.

I don't know about are new glossy 19's but the NEC 90GX2 was a glossy 19 that was just recently discontinued. They still turn up for sale though. I bought one as an open box off Newegg for 165 and it worked perfect. If you keep light from being directly behind you no glare is noticed. In fact, images look cleaner and clearer because they don't have the grainy anti-glare smeared on and making displsy look like its dusty. Of course if your just gaming it might not matter. Photos are the real test.

Yes, the 90GX2 is the main one that comes to mind. It was available fairly cheaply ($200) on Newegg for a long time, but I guess they ran out of them eventually. It's supposed to be replaced with something called the 90GX2 Pro, but I don't know exactly when those are coming out. Although I don't know why you would want one if you have the superior 20" one.

The Sony one is quite old now and doesn't look half as good. It's probably long out of production by now anyway.

And yeah, these screens look way better than conventional LCDs if you can control the glare.

Disagree. During my dark days in electronics retail I basically stared at side-by-side LCDs all day, glossy v standard, etc.

If your gamma and color saturation are set up properly on any monitor, glossy or no, they'll look about the same. Which is to say, far better than any CRT.

No wonder. That is the one situation in which they look bad, due to the glare from the bright overhead lights. The black levels on these monitors in normal lighting conditions are incomparably better than on matte LCDs. They actually look like black and not some shade of gray or blue.

As for the CRTs, you evidently have never seen a good one.

WTF?

Sorry, but why in the world would you want to cease using what's basically one of the best LCDs in existence?

The 19" glossy NECs were nice no doubt, but nowhere remotely in the same league as the 20" WS you say you have.

Reason needed to ensure my sanity...

Yeah Yeah I know :) its probably the best 20 inch lcd out their, but the problem is I am blind in one eye and I'm having one hella of a time seeing on this lcd. I went to a friend's house who has the 90gx2 and man I could see that as clear as day 10 times better than the 20wmgx2, :)

If you're referring to the text size, you can correct that to some extent. Play around with the font size and DPI settings in Windows until the text looks confortable to you. The text scaling doesn't work in all programs but most mainstream ones should be fine. I wouldn't give up that monitor just for that reason.

I've seen plenty of good ones. No matter whether you go with aperture grill or shadow mask, there's always some kind of image imperfection, not to mention the less than stellar geometry on most models, not to mention the eye-strain regardless of refresh rate.

Some people may be a little more resistant to the effects than others, but personal taste is just that - taste.

The common argument of color saturation being better on CRTs is cute too - but hey, think it if ya wanta.

Whatever units you saw were obviously not good at all or were set up incorrectly if they had such problems. There is no geometry or focus issue with the one I'm looking at now, although it did take some work to get it like this.

The eye strain is entirely subjective. I have no issues with a CRT at 100hz. Some people have problems LCDs as well due to their high brightness and screen door effects.

I don't what this "common argument" is, as I haven't heard it in years. :p

This is irrelevant to the original discussion in any case.

Ridiculous. Internet forums are for tangential arguments, and you know it.

Someone really has a case of misplaced priorities...

...but I'm not saying who.

Well, you certainly won't need to upgrade your video card in the near future!

Well I had a AG Neovo E-19A it is far superior than every other LCD I have seen for 2-D Apps the contrast was amazing. I miss it. It did not have a coating it actually has a glass face.

Not a gaming monitor. it does ok but 2-D it is King :)
