on a soundcard. The blue output. The green is for speakers, red for mike, but blue doesnt seem to do anything. It wont work w/ my powered speakers, or my headphones.

isn't that what the mic input is for? (acdidently put mike in my other post lol). I mean, on my headset it has blue and red. Red for mic, blue for headphone part, but the blue doesn't work, only the green.

hi,
the microphone input had extra gain built in for microphone levels. the line in input is for talking the output from your tape player or cd player, or any standard 2 volt level source. microphone inputs are much lower source signal levels, like only a few millivolts full output. these are the standard levels for microphones.
hope this helps.

This is 100% accurate. The microphone jack is amplified to provide power to the mic and the blue jack is for input from, for example, a tuner.
