just installed this anicent game (in my anicent Celeron 850 machine), and it just wasn't quite right.

The plot is corny, predictable, and unexciting (not to mention the pathetic cutscenes and voiceover acting).

The game felt like a combination of the mindless killing in Soldier of Fortune minus the mindlessness, the stealthness required in Rainbow 6: Ghost Recon minus the excitement, the storyline of Project: I'm Going In plus all the lameness. The only saving grace is the localized damage feature which makes you really have to hit the bad guy in the head and the fact that it spawned from its previous iconic prequel from ID soft.

Ancient game? It's what, 1 year old? jesus. An "ancient game" is something like Zork, or possibly something like Wolf3D, but definitely not somethng that was designed to work on windows XP.

That isn't exactly a revelation. The singleplayer was bashed for its lackluster quality. The multiplayer, however, was lots of fun and quite popular.

The single player is average at best, the AI is not to bad. The multiplayer is a polished gem however. Multiplayer and Singleplayer development was done by two different companies. Multiplayer is class based team warefare with some inspired objective maps. I've been playing it hardcore on and off for a couple years now.

oh.... well, in my computer I have Quake3Arena and Unreal Tourney.... and I bought Q3A, UT about the same time, and RtcW 1 year later, now UT came out with UT2k AND UT2k4, so I reckon these games are quite old already.

and yeah, I just tried to play MP alone (no internet connection at home) and it looked quite fun. (kinda like Assault in UT with a handful of CS-ness)

I played the Xbox version w/ co-op. I thought it was pretty fun, especially on the tomb levels with the mummies bursting out of the walls etc. I think they made the game look pretty good when they ported it.

Edit: Oh... but the final fight sucked...

funny line:

Disgruntled Delivery Soldier: "So what am I gonna do with all these cheese?"
Dam Guard: "I dunno, find some crackers?"

danny~!

see, that's what I think too, but if more killing = fun then the epitome of that is Soldier of Fortune and Serious Sam. now those are fun. (Serious Sam a bit better :) )

yeah, that map was cool, but I kept getting sniped too.... so I took care of it by brute force :) It could have been a real fun sniper map :)

the other map I had great fun in is the Special Warfactory map where you have to find the Venom Book and the enemies are hiding everywhere... it was very Full Metal Jacket-like.

I liked the single player mode, although some of the missions were a serious pain in the ass, most notably the X-Labs with all the damn Lopers and Uber Soldaten. The AI was actually surprisingly good at points though, especially the Elite Guards.

hey, are those Lopers weaker in the Legs (or walking arms actually) than in the head?

the AI was alright, if the soldiers got hit once, run, and hide, just wait 10 seconds and they usually would pop right back out the same spot again.

Beats me. All I know is that they were a pain in the ass. They pissed me off because they could deal major damage just by getting close to you sometimes. If I had to fight them, I tried to keep my distance and just warm up the Venom gun and hope to shred them before they kicked my ass. ;)

I thought SP was fine. Seemed like standard fare compared to most FPS games. I enjoyed it.

It was actually one of the few FPS games that I've played the single player campaign all the way through. The cutscenes were painful though.

And what kind of videocard do you have in that Celeron 850?

Yeah, the end boss totally sucked ass. Actually, all the bosses sucked. They all followed that same boring standard FPS standard, boss has tons of health, is really big and has a lot guns. Boss dodges nothing and you just shoot and dodge for like 10 years until it dies. And what a video cliche! We spend the entire game trying to prevent the ancient evil that is suppossedly unspottable from being awakened...we do everything right, but SOMEHOW HE STILL GETS AWAKENED!! Then we of course have to fight him. And the unstoppable monster is some how beaten by one guy with a lot of guns. WTF

A lot of people complained about the single player, and there were definately some low points...but I thought overall it was good, 7-8/10 good...definately worth a play through.

The crypt level was cool, where you first come in from above and you get to watch the nazis fight the undead monsters. That was awesome...and those shield zombies were kind of hard to beat.

The elite guard church and old castle levels were fun, those elite guard are pretty sneaky.

The blown out city levels that you go to were really cool. I liked that FG42 gun a lot on those levels.

Plus the flame throwing in that game is wicked awesome.
