I was looking at the team anandtech website.....it said that K5's do 3.3KKeys/MHz??? WHAAT? That can't be right...that's more than an Athlon!

Yep, they are very good at RC5. But, remember, that the max speed on them is pretty low.

Yep, even the lowly Cyrix when compared to a Pentium (and forgetting the PR-XXX system) is faster. This is mainly because of the fact that due to their weak FPU performance, companies like AMD & Cyrix tried to gain a speed advantage in normal business apps where the programs only use integer maths (RC5 only uses integer maths).

Something else that caught my attention is that the 486 key rate is more than double the 386 key rate. Surprising considering there is not a big difference in architecture - I can only assume it is because the 386's lacked the same amount of on-chip cache as a 486.

Actually with the latest client the output of the Athlon core is a little bit faster than 3.3KKeys/MHz

I have a bunch of k5's crackin for me and I get 434-438 kkeys a sec from my pr166@pr200's(pr200 is actually 133mhz). Nice little crackers for old pentium boards with onboard everything 😉
