We've had a long turbulent voting history in this country

I gotta say, I really can't remember an election as turbulent as this one recently, and with the news of dumbsfeld stepping down the same day that the house is decided in one of the tightest races in a very, very long time, this has been an amazing 36 hours. I was watching the election results as late as I could last night as if it was game 7 of the world series and the Cubs were tied against the White Sox.... (yea I'm a Chicago boy).
Kudos to the Democrats, it's going to be wonderful finally getting oversight on this administration, control over dumbya, and hopefully getting our economic ship righted.
What a wonderful rainy November day (and tomorrow's my Dads b'day! :D)

Only every mid term election with a second term president.

Like nutxo said. Last night was a very typical 6 year election.

Yes the Democrats look to have won both houses. But number of seats they picked up are very near, maybe even lower, than the average for 6 year elections.

I think this is mainly because by time a President gets to the 6 year point he has tried all his major programs and plans and therefore lacks something big to run on. Meanwhile the other side can run against every mistake that President has made for 6 years.

This seems to have been the case last night. Bush and Republicans had nothing big to run on, while the Democrats could complain about every Bush program for the last 6 years.

Sheik, go read up what happened with the mid-term elections during Clinton's second term. Pretty much same thing.

If dumbya didn't give the Democrats so much ammunition, maybe they wouldn't 'complain' so much. Then again, complacency seems to be a strong suit in the followers of dumbya.

You keep saying that. But the fact is, there were 40 Republican Senators NOT up for election at all. It is damn hard to have a landslide when the opponent is guaranteed at least 40% of the office space.

Look at every close race? Who won? Overwhelmingly it was Democrats. The difference this year, is that a lot of seats were locked up, untouchable. Remember, the GOP congress set all the precinct borders to guarantee this after the 2000 census.

I'm saying this because you run the risk of creating a circular argument. The election was set up by the Republicans so that it was impossible for Democrats to have a landslide. Then the Democrats didn't have a landslide. Therefore, you conclude that the Democrats didn't do well.

In a similar example. Suppose I say I'm psychic and that the next person to walk in the door will be a red-headed woman. I also previously hired 100 red-headed women to walk in the door just after I say that. Then, guess what, a red-headed woman walks in the door next. Does that mean I am psychic? No. Think about that as it relates to the election.
