Counter-Strike 1.6 can now be played in your web browser

I was in high school when CS came out. I grew up using computers, but was never seriously into them. I wanted to play Half-Life & my PC didn't have a real video card, so I saved up & bought the wrong one haha. And that kind of got me started into tinkering with computers. In tech class in high school, we used "learning networking" as a cover story for getting to play Counter-strike the whole semester. And I actually learned a lot about networking from it - Ethernet, IP's, setting up a server, etc. I eventually got into building my own computers after high school & then took it to the next level as a full-time job after college. And now I can play Counter-strike in a web browser. The world is amazing lol.

I don't think "Full Circle" means what you think it means.

Being able to play CS in your browser is more like a straight line, moving upwards.

Definition of full circle: "through a series of developments that lead back to the original source, position, or situation or to a complete reversal of the original position."

i.e. we started out with gaming PC's & now you can play the OG game in your browser, like magic. Same game, but flipped from requiring a dGPU to being able to play inside of a browser.

this brings back memories. Awesome find!

It was laggy but I checked out a couple of maps. Brought me straight back to 20 years ago lol. So many good memories playing online with e-friends. Naiwaste & FarmerBob, if you're still out there, saludé!

Yeah, exactly.
We are not in the same position nor in a reversal.

Started to join a server but the download was taking too long so I gave up. Brings me back to the dial-up days! :p

I was just thinking about Halo 1 the other day, had a random nostalgic moment and looked up game play and stuff on Youtube. I did not realize that game came out in 2001, way further back than I remember. Holy crap I'm old. When I think of nostalgia and games it's stuff like NES and SNES, but now even Halo qualifies lol. I kinda want to setup one of my old PCs and get the game going for fun. I don't imagine it would run on my windows 7 machine otherwise it would be pretty crazy to play it on hardware that is decades ahead of what it was designed for.

Same position = still playing CS 1.6 LOL

I tried to play a couple of years ago. Downloaded it, joined a server, spent 20 minutes getting fragged by expert 14-year-olds who spent 10 hours a day playing, quit :D

Haha, that was me couple years ago trying to relive my glory days as CS gamer. Jumped on a couple games with my son and it was constant headshots and sniped. I don't think I even got that good back in the days but at least I could held up on the board in the top half....no more. But it was fun tho bring back the days of Quake, TeamFortress, and ultimately CS 1.6. I'm even in the older crowd that started playing Doom over modem with friends and getting an online game with Duke Nukem 3D using Kali was not quite so easy but so much fun. Gaming got me into tweaking computers which later got me into sysadmin/networking and pretty much leads to my current career.

Same route for me! Got hooked & then somehow ended up doing it professionally!

I still have friends playing Quake (maybe it's Quake II that's the popular one). I still run through the Half-life franchise every year, usually at Thanksgiving. Love the OG stuff haha!

I started playing CS back when it was in beta, so before the official 1.0 release (as I'm sure many here remember). CS was a childhood defining game at the time if you were the right age.

Everyone remembers Siege right? And all the terrorist models being the same one and they would blend into the scenery somewhat easily. And the vehicle... oh man that was classic! Those were the days...

I remember getting the disk for Halo from PC gamer and being amazed. This was when I was playing Half Life, AoE, and UT. I was so addicted to UT. I look back at UT and the graphics look so blocky. Anyone remember HEAT online? Got into Kingpin, and it's online component. It was like going into another world. Same with HLife online. Now. We take it all for granted.

I still remember going to the mall and heading to EB games. I wanted to buy Sacrifice. Awesome game. The guy there was telling me that PC gaming was done for, and that the XBOX was going to end it. This was a few years before Steam. Yea, look at how that turned out.

Just curious .... what turned out to be the "wrong" video
card? (I hope the memory isn't too painful!)

Kali ... wow that's a blast from the past! :)

I never really got into CS or UT by the time they were around I was "Death-matched" and "Capture the Flagged" out on Quake 1/2 related stuff.

And I too can clearly recall the joy of trying to directly connect to an opponent via dial-up although my favorite games were the Mechwarrior series.

Its easy to take for granted how seamless it all is these days!
