The vet. said my cat needs to get off the dry food, but told me to watch out for water-based meals. Can anyone recommend a good protein-rich meal to give my 12lb cat.

Anything with fish is high in protein. Same for beef and chicken, but to a lesser degree.

Just get it some meat to eat!

Why do people insist on feeding their pets that processed crap!?

That's what I wonder. Most processed food isn't good for humans, so why would it be good for animals

Why wet food? I always thought dry food was vastly superior nutritionally

You eat buscuits or dry bread all day. See how you feel. :D

Think about the nutritional content of small rodents, fish, etc (a cat's natural diet). I haven't seen too many made out of corn. ;)

2 reasons:
1) Cost
2) Effort

Of course, the m/d food I recommended probably costs more than your gizzards and the like from a butcher, but it is infinitely more convenient than cooking your cat meals.

My mom does something similar to what you suggest for her dog though, boiled chicken or lamb, eggs, brown rice and peas.

My cat drinks from the toilet, so I have a hunch that he's not all that fussy with what his food tastes like :)

m/d?

Yea thats what i'd do if i had pets, although im not quite sure about the costs of either of the foods we're talking about.

Cats + Dogs can eat raw meat right?

m/d is the Hill's food I linked above.

Easy to say what you'd do since you don't have pets. ;)

Yes, cats & dogs can eat raw foods, I know people feed their dogs raw chicken, bones and all and whole raw eggs. Personally, I'd cook anything I fed to my pets though, it's not worth the risk, especially since I'd probably be feeding them scrap meat/cheap stuff.

Brushing your pets teeth goes a lot further to keeping their teeth healthy and their breath good than feeding them dry food.

Feeding raw meat is a bad idea if the cat is sick. Cats normally don't have a big issue with salmonella but if the cat is already ill it can be an issue. Also, feeding solely raw meat is not good, because a cat needs a few other things to remain truly healthy. Cooked meat with bones can be dangerous for cats because the bones are too brittle.

Fish based canned food can contain a lot of mercury compared to the weight of a cat. Not sure if that is a concern for you.

I recommend evo or wellness. Nutro Natural if you only shop at petsmart type places.

Most wet food is sigificantly higher in protein than dry food.
