It's good to see a peaceful counter prevail against the Phelps family.

People in Weston, Missouri banded together on Saturday. They wanted to protect loved ones who were saying goodbye to a fallen soldier. They stood up to members of the Wetboro Baptist Church who planned to protest at Sgt. First Class C.J. Sadell's funeral...
"I'd say probably half the people in Weston are here," said Eric Moser, Marine Corp veteran. Weston has less than 2,000 residents, but hundreds of people showed up to support the family of First Sgt. Sadell...
Rebecca Rooney is a Weston resident who wanted to stand up against Fred Phelps and his followers. "We got everybody here early so we could take up all the parking spots," Rooney said. "We did that so Mr. Phelps wouldn't have a contingency that was really close." Supporters came armed with patriotic music and American flags.
Protesters didn't stick around long once they saw the supporters...
People came from Blue Springs, California and even Australia to be a part of the band of patriotic supporters. Half of the group lined up at the intersection while the the other half created a human shield at the funeral home.
A great example of how to deal with these people.

Perfect example of using the Constitutional right to counter protest instead of going down that slippery slope to alter the First Amendment (also known as hate speech laws present in most other countries) just because the Phelps are offensive.

This is the example to follow. Circle the wagons and peacefully deny them access to a place they are not welcome.

That is awesome. Glad to see the sicko Westboro bunch shut down. I got to see the procession when Sgt. Sadell was taken off the plane and driven to Weston. It was pretty inspiring to see all the support he received. Hope is wife and kids are doing ok.

I still think someone should just get a Toyota that hasn't been recalled and run over the Westboro morons. When it went to trial, the person would walk - Everyone would know he/she did what needed to be done.

Message sent, and surely received.

Yes yes. Violence is always the answer.

Sure, if these types of efforts can be sustained each and every time these idiots decide to protest a funeral.

If not, I'd rather just see my suggestion implemented, preferably by someone who was a friend/family member of the fallen (far higher chance to get off on mental grounds).

A few of these douche's get run over at a few of these events, their dumbf*ck BS they pull will come to an abrupt end.

This.

SCOTUS already ruled that pheps's first amendment trumps possible emotional damage.

I find it funny the difference on how small town red state america solves the problem, versus how big city blue state america solves it. Blue state america just shows up with more annoying signs and has two gay guys make out in front of the Phelps' family. Very little meaning or thought put into their protests.

I still advocate a mixture of tar and feathers liberally but gentle applied may be a way to deal with the Westboro church, but I will not knock the outcome here.

But I somewhat predict that one of these days, someone will respond with real violence and then maybe those crazies will wake up when one or more of their members are dead.

And I love how Blue America does nothing about the situation at all except defend Westboro Church's rights to be vile bigots. All while complaining that the counterprotest was wrong/stupid/meaningless. And yet, said counterprotest is *also* protected under the same laws that enable Westboro to operate to begin with. Not to mention the counterprotest is/was effective in protecting the family of the fallen soldier's right to bury their son in peace.

So clearly, little thought was put into your post either.

How exactly is blue state america defending Westboro Church's rights and red state america is not?
