My family is thinking of getting a Westinghouse LVM-37W3 as a TV for our living room connecting HD cable, DVDs, eventually an Xbox 360, and maybe HD-DVDs. It seems quite cheap, especially considering the fact that it's an 1080p monitor. We won't be holding it in the living room for long, moving it to my parent's bedroom in half a year to a year. That's when we'll get a TV and full-blown Home theater system. My mom isn't super-picky about the TV that will be in her room eventually, but it should have above average/good image quality.

What are your guys' thoughts?

No it's simply a waste of money right now :p

By a nice B&W 13" for the family room.

People that have it seem to love it. I don't think it has a TV tuner though. In that case you would need to run it off a box or media PC etc. In fact, I see some people get offended when its called a TV and they protest "but it doesnt have a tuner like TV - it's a monitor!".

I sure as hell hope not. This Monitor is on my list of things to get. I'm sure they will just replace it with a different model, but at a higher price!

Kinda small for a living room HDTV. H*ll, some people use 'em as computer monitors.

Probably perfect for the eventual spot in the bedroom though.

Do keep in mind that like most LCD televisions, the black level isn't particularly great. In a bedroom you'd probably want to occasionally use it with the lights out or with the lights dimmed, and that'll exacerbate the poor black levels. Whether it'll be bad enough to bother your mother I couldn't say. Of course if it'll be used only with good lighting then this is less of a concern.

I've noticed this first-hand, as I have a 37W3 in my bedroom. I'm a bit more picky about these things than many people, tho...

Do note that I'm not singling out the 37W3 here with my "poor black level" comments. This same comment applies to all LCD televisions, although some Sony models seem to be a little bit better than the other brands.
