Decent deal! I would recommend going with a non 1080p monitor b/c their is no content around that can handle those resolutions
besides Blu-ray. We all know that Blu-ray cost $600 - $1000 to obtain just for an increase in picture quality. Everything is 720p
or 1080i right now.

1080p is great for a computer screen. More and more is coming out and supporting it.

A 1080-line capable set can actually display 1080i content in full resolution, unlike the "regular" 720p/768p sets or tube HDTV's which downrez 1080i to 540p. (Beware of any set that claims 1080i compatibility but not 720p)

Thanks! The 6 HD capable inputs plus the PIP capabilities make this ideal for hooking up PCs, Consoles, and recievers. The only draw back it's a pure monitor and doesn't have NTSC tuner which can enabled by using an external VCR or just go all out with ATSC tuner from Satellite box, Cable box, or external OTA receiver.

wow, for $799 i woulda quit ;)

thats HALF that Best Buy price

That's flamming hot! But the ad didn't say how many are in-stock but I haven't heard of that store until now. I would imagine there weren't too many people lining up like in bestbuy. The nearest one to my home is 75 miles away though and I'm not sure if 150miles both way is worth the $170 saving after the gas and waiting for at least perhaps 5 hours. Maybe so...

I haven't read any read about "LVM-37W3" in any of the thread for BF sale @ Shopko. It's probably one of the most well hidden bargains for LCD TVs.

Not sure it's the EXACT same model #, but it is 37" and 1080p

Here's a link with pics.

Yeap. Looks like the same as one shown on Crutchfield and Westinghouse's website. Unlike the BestBuy's 32" WestingHouse LCD TV and 22" LCD, this one didn't receive much attention here at all at anandtech and other deals forum that I imagine that there isn't too many people linining up except some locals who actually receive the printed ad.

Next year screw the BB BF. I'm tired of waiting in line with so many other people in the bad weather for long period just so I can "possibly" save ~200 or so.

hows crutchfield on service/returns? i have the sceptre 37" coming from costco and i wouldn't mind checking this out if they'd refund my money if i liked the sceptre better. of course, i'd have to pay the freight back to crutchfield.

has anyone had experience with either the sceptre or this westy, hopefully both :)

westy is supposed to be a bit better, but sceptre isn't horrible... you probably have a better warranty from westinghouse than sceptre, but costco has a better return policy.. if you can stop by a store that has the westinghouse or the 42" westinghouse to get a sense of how it looks. BB def does, don't know which others offhand

Crutchfield return policy:
30-day Money-Back Guarantee
with Free Return Shipping

30-Day Money-Back Guarantee
You can return any product within 30 days of receiving it. Just make sure it's in like-new condition, pack it all (remote, manual, etc.) securely in the original packaging, and call us for a Return Authorization number.

We'll gladly exchange it or give you a refund for the full amount of the merchandise (not including original shipping) ? whichever you prefer.

FREE Return Shipping
Your satisfaction is so important to us, we'll even pay if you decide to send a product back. Return an item for an exchange or refund (your choice) during your evaluation period, and we'll cover the cost of return shipping. And, unlike the hidden charges at some retailers, no re-stocking fees apply as long as all of the original equipment is complete and returned in good condition.*

*Larger items requiring special delivery, such as some TVs, tower speakers, and furniture, are excluded from this offer, but there is no charge for returning damaged or defective products regardless of size.

thanks!

my eyes are tired from searching for deals all day :p

edit- btw, i chatted with a crutchfield rep and he said i'd need to pay the shipping back. i'd guess he is just trying to discourage a return. but it appears the written poilicy is they pay the freight back :)

they pay freight back, but as I highlighted, larger items such as some tv's (read most likely any large tv) are excluded from the free return shipping offer.

If they said it's excluded, it is and you'd have to pay. That's why i said costco probably has a slightly better return policy.

again, i missed it and it was in bold

well, the sceptre is due tuesday and like you said, i can return that no problem; i live ~15 minutes from a costco.

if i like the sceptre better i'll just sell the westy locally. i'm sure i'd make my money back anyway.

Hmm, is this one of the westies that has reported problems with ati video chipsets? Also, as per the crutchfield info, it does not have a tuner.

Uhm.. why would anyone buy this and use it strictly as a TV? This is a monitor first and foremost and if you run it through your computer, Everything is 1080p!

This monitor has 2 drawbacks.
1. No Builtin Tuner for SD or HD
2. SD upscaling looks like crap!

720p 1080p 1080i all look great. I use this monitor at home with my computer and an HD tuner. I recommend buying this monitor, and when HD-DVD or Blue ray is finally affordable, you'll be gtg.

the thing that is key to what he said, is that he'd recommend going with a non 1080p monitor.

This is a monitor, not a TV, which means you want as high res as possible since you're most likely running it from your computer.

Second, from what most people report, ANY HDTV looks like crap on SD. This is probably a little worse cuz it's even higher res than a 720p, but to me that's an argument against buying an HDTV - which just seems strange.

You can get upscaling DVD-players to 1080i and there are already HD and Blueray players out there. They are expensive for the higher quality, but the price is only going to drop on those. You can output 1080i or 1080p from many video cards.

In terms on not having a builtin tuner, AFAIK the cheapest 1080p LCD with a tuner is the Samsung 40" which will be $600-700 more at least, on sale. You can buy one much cheaper than that to hook to this.

Finally, at this price it's cheaper than many comparable 720p sets so it just makes sense to get it instead. That way you won't have to buy a 1080p set in the future.

If all you care about is SD TV, you shouldn't bother with any HD set because it will look better generally on a cruddy cheapo SD set that is the native res for SD. If you're interested in HD, SD is a moot point because none of them will look as good on it. It comes with the increased resolution.

Also, the current gen video game consoles all output HD. PS3 outputs 1080p. While there isn't much going in 1080p right now, the next gen consoles after xbox360, Wii, and PS3 will almost definitely be in 1080p at least, and you'll want a higher res display.

No tuner. I wanted to use it for video games and pc monitor. I really don't like the idea of ordering a tv online though because if there are issues, tons of shipping can be involved. 1920x1080 would be nice though.
