I own a 46" Samsung DLP that is about 1 year old. I'm looking for a new TV for my bedroom and am considering a Westinghouse, Insignia or Vizio LCD. Are they worth the money I save by going with an off brand instead of Samsung, Sony, or Toshiba?

Thanks

id throw westinghouse into the good list. the new line is solid, adds a tuner, and fixes alot of the silly issues from the previous models (aka, user upgradeable firmware).

Vizio is good if you don't place it next to a Sony or Samsung to see the difference in picture, but for the price these differences can be overlooked to most people... :)

Westinghouse LCD monitor/TVs look good and usually get good reviews. Many of the Insignia LCDs are actually made by LG......the #1 maker of LCDs in the world (just passed Samsung). Calling the brand "junk" is dumb.....

Apparently some are.....trying to find the true maker of some of these monitors is tricky. Poloroid models can look exactly like an Insignia. Re-branding is so common, you have to research just what you're buying. I've given up. If it looks good and you can actually find a review or two......buy it locally. Take it back if you're not satisfied.

Insignia is BB's brand. I had a 23" HDTV made by them for about 2 years, it worked great and I never had any problems with it. The menus were slow and it was slow to change inputs and channels, and the remote wouldn't let you switch directly to an input, you had to cycle through them. But those are all things you might find on any set, you just have to play with a display model to find out.

That said, I do hate BB with a passion and would never buy an Insignia TV again. But it's your decision, just trying to inform you.

My younger brother picked up a 32" olevia from CC for $500 about three weeks ago. Works great and looks pretty good to boot but the channel switching is a little lethargic. My friend got a 19" westinghouse from sams yesterday and the picture is great and the built in tuner picked up all the HD cable channels, including the movie channels, even though she is only paying for basic cable.
