Uhm, tell me if this sounds like it's common...

The DVI cable I bought is the correct one. This, I know, because either end will fit into the connection on my video card and my monitor. Here is my problem: when I go to attach one end to the DVI slot on my monitor, it fits... but the right "bolt" doesn't seem to screw in. Does that make sense? Those little things you twist to keep the thing securely attached, you know? One of them doesn't want to "screw in." One side will, the other won't.

I'm wondering if maybe this is a defect from the monitor (despite it looking to be in perfect condition -- even the connection part)? Would I have to send it in to Westinghouse and pay like $25 shipping? That's obviously a route I want to avoid...

It just seems really strange. I was wondering if anyone else who picked up this monitor at Best Buy ($200 during Black Friday) had this problem....

I don't even know if this made sense!

Have you tried swapping ends on the DVI cable? Try a different cable entirely? I'd be suspicious of the cable being mis-made before blaming the monitor, plus it's easy troubleshooting.

In any case, if you can only screw one side of the plug in, it should be just fine. I assume you are getting the image just fine, and the only issue you're having is the screwdown issue?

Though it'd bother me a little, it's not a big deal. If it were me, I probably wouldn't have even noticed...I generally doing use those screws at all. Makes for easy removal/reattachment too if I ever feel like swapping cables or moving monitors.

it shouldn't matter, its not like they are required for it to work.

As long as it works, I wouldn't worry about it unless you have reason to think that it's going to come loose.

Cool. I'm going to give it another try. I realized today that the error message I was getting ("check source or signal") occurred even when I had the VGA cable connected [happens when the monitor is on before the computer starts up]... I'll see what's going on here.

Thanks for the responses, though! This is a great forum, I gotta get around to usin' it more often.

Second Edit: Well, turns out the problem was that you have to select the source when you turn the monitor on. I didn't even know you could do that until I messed around with it a bit. I didn't have DVI selected! :p
