So I'm looking to upgrade my OLD 17" CRT, and I really like the reviews I've been reading about the westinghouse 22". However, it's listed under best buy's website as sold out...are we to assume it will be there on black friday or no? Also, I'm running an older video card Radeon 9600 which supports the following resolutions:

640x480
800x600
1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024
1600x1200
1920x1080* 16:9
1920x1200
1920x1440
2048x1536

So I'm assuming ideally I shouldn't use this card for this monitor since it doesn't seem to support the westingouse 1680x1050 native res?

it will most definitely be at BB. i was at a location in raleigh yesterday that had 5 of them sitting there on the shelf. And you are somewhat correct about the resolution issue...the 9600 doesn't support any 16:10 resolutions. I'm not sure on the perticulars, but it is severely frowned upon to run LCD"s at anything other than their native resolution. You could technically run a higher resolution and the monitor would scale it down, but the image would be stretched. If you are really interested in the monitor, mabye pick up a newer video card with the monitor?

Your Radeon card supports many more resolutions. First step, update to the latest driver. Second, to check what /really/ is available, uncheck "Hide modes this monitor cannot display", then browse the "List all modes" window.

Thanks guys, I updated the drivers, and I have new resolutions, but it doesn't suppor the 1680x1050...hmmm what to do what to do...

I know have the option of looking for another lcd, or picking this one up with a new card. I don't game at all and I want a monitor with 8bit capabilities (no FRC or dithering) because I do a lot of graphic design and movie watching, so should I look for a smaller lcd that supports the resolutions I have for my card, or just get another card? I don't need an 8800 or anthing obviously, so what would be a decent card to get that supports this resolution? Again, I won't be gaming at ALL. Thanks for the input guys.

Edit, looks like the 9600 Pro supports that resolution...it's such an old card though, would it be worth it just to have the capability to run the westinghouse at it's native res?

If you use the DVI connector (if you have one) then I'm pretty sure that your 9600 will be fine. My wife is using an old Radeon 9100, and no trouble at all running at 1440 x 900.
Before that, she had an ancient ATI Xpert 2000, through the VGA connector, and I was even able to get that to work - although it was a royal PITA.

If you don't want 8-bit and dithering, then the 22-inch Westinghouse is not for you. It is a 6-bit TN panel and it uses an advanced form of dithering, like all the current 22-inch widescreen LCD monitors.

You could have a look at the Samsung 215 TW

But not at $199 :brokenheart:

You don't need a powerful video card if you don't game. Try to find the cheapest AGP card in the Nvidia 7XXX series or ATi X1xxx line

Thanks, I was actually trying to find out whether it was true 8 bit or not...hmmm, well I'll think about it.

It's a 6bit panel that uses Hi-FRC to achieve near 8bit colors. Better than dithering, but it's no 8bitter.

Do you guys think a 2 year old Dell P4 with the Intel video will be able to display 1680x1050? If so I'm going to pick one up for my Mom for Christmas but my parents live 3 hours away so it would be hard to update the drivers and all that just to see if it could run at the native res. Yes, it will have to be RGB. The Dell only has PCI slots so I don't think getting a PCI video card is a feasible option to allow for DVI.

Thanks!

Does anyone know the exact model of the 22" Westy that will be at BB? I need to look up the dimensions on it to see if it will fit my dad's desk. Thanks!
