In my area, every call made outside of local calls is resulting in a busy signal. Anyone else finding this? (Next step in terrorist attacks?) Any internet connection that requires a phone line isn't working. How widespread is this?

you sure it isnt the local phone company having trouble? MCI has done that to my company, we were without local and 800 numbers for 2 days.

iamwiz, that's why I'd like to find out if anyone else in Cali is having this prob. Call your parents, if it works, they'll be thrilled. If it doesn't, you'll be thrilled. ;)

Might want to try using a 10-10 number and see if the dial around can get you out. If so, it is your ld carrier.

HotChic,

The problem isn't likely as widespread as you may think. What is likely happening is that the phone equipment in your area has been cut off from the host (main) equipment. When this happens, the remote equipment will go into Emergency Stand Alone (ESA) mode where it will only process calls internal to your area because the remote office equipment can no longer communicate with the host office equipment which does all the switching.

The most common reason for this is a cable cut, but there are a number of other reasons that this may happen including storms, power outages or accidental unprovisioning of the equipment.

Sorry if this seems confusing... this stuff is not easy to put in regular terms. :)

There are only two people in my call group on calls right now, it got really dead really fast...

Probably unrelated, but strange nonetheless.

Assuming she doesn't live in a rural area, local dynamic routing should take care of that if that is in fact the case.

Damn $3.95 a minute?

Can't we get an ATOT "group discount rate"?

Here's my little question. Your phone line does not work... Phones in your area don;t work...

How do you come up with the conclusion that the phone grid is down in the western United States? That is a bit of a reach isn't it?
