It's amazing how many experts there are on India in ATOT that have never traveled there. And for every one woman's account like the one posted in this thread about harassment, there are hundreds if not thousands that report pleasant experiences - they just aren't as controversial and don't get the attention.

India has its problems - but for all the hype about its supposed horrible treatment of women, it has also elected women Prime Ministers and has one of the most educated populations of women in the world. Judging any society by its most sensationalized lowest common denominator would lead one to believe that we are defined by abortion clinic bombers, gangbangers, serial killers, and school shooters.

In the eyes of the rest of the world, we are.

The Indian legislators who try to blame the victim or downplay the severity of these events do not help the cause.

Nice reply. Avoid the whole thing and choose something else to talk about. Typical. But if it suits your agenda, then go ahead.

The western media definitely likes India more than China, so why don't they dig more stories of women getting raped and murdered at the same time from China to make China look bad? Isn't it easier to attack China because it has a dictatorship government? Why these stories keep coming out of India? Think about it.

And OP, why do these rape crimes generate so much sensation in the first place? We know rape crimes happens in all other countries in the world, so why pick on India? Maybe the difference is that the police in India is treating these rape crimes as petty crimes and refuses to do anything about it until the media "sensitize" it and make it known to the world, while other countries treat them as serious felonies and put serious efforts to make the arrests? If the police in India would quickly make the arrest and hand out appropriate sentence swiftly, then we wouldn't be hearing too much about them.

There's been a high profile rape case like the one in Mumbai two years ago in the USA lately?

Sociopathy aside (can sense it high in this thread...) was pretty brutal, even savage...
