Western Digital's RMA

Anubis

No Lifer
anyone know how this is. or have any expirence with them. im going to have to shortly and i could use a heads up

What's to know? They give you plenty of time after authorizing the RMA to get the package in the mail. Follow their instructions, package the drive well and inside an antistatic bag.

Will they send you a replacement drive then you send out the defective one? (If they require a deposit, thats fine with me) Or do they have to inspect and attempt repair on the RMA'd device?

They offer two methods you can choose from

1) Basic - You ship the drive to them, when they receive it they then send out the new one.

2) Advanced - You provide a CC # (for collateral) and they will ship you a replacement drive and all you do is ship the bad one (at your cost) in the packaging they sent.

I used #2 and it only took about 2 weeks from calling it in to arrival of the new one

I did the second option and got the replacement in 3 days. It really is quite easy.

yeah, I'm going through the Advanced RMA from Maxtor and their policy is that they ship to you within 2 business days.

Customer support was great, the guy I spoke with was very polite and helpful. He did not put up a fuss and offered to RMA it when I told him that the drive was getting noisy even though the diagnostic software showed no issues (I think there's a problem with the ball bearings). Thumbs up to Maxtor for great customer service! 🙂

Either way, Maxtor's RMA was a piece of cake. I imagine WD's is similar 🙂
