I just got off the phone with western digital about my two 500GB sata2 hard drives.
They started to click on me one died and the other is on the way.

Ok so i have them do a warranty check on the drives one is from the middle east and the other is not in there system.

Now I bought them brand new from either newegg.com or tigerdirect can't remember and i'm having trouble finding my invoice, i have over 65 pages on newegg.com so its kinda hard.

Now they said even if i did find the invoice they would charge me extra for having to ship back to the middle east, and the other drive i'm sol.

I do not understand how they do that to a customer of 12 years and bought well over 600 western digital hard drives. I have never had this problem before. Now i'm probably never going to go back with them because i'm scared i'm going to get taking advantage of.

Just wanted to know if anybody has had that problem before??
There customer service was very rude,

How old are the drives? I can see them charging extra for international shipping since I thought their main warranty service was for the US? I mean, it would cost them more, usually, if they don't ship from the same country.

As for the unknown drive, I assume you double/triple checked the typos, etc. After that, you try calling up Newegg/TD and complaining that the drive that they sold you has an invalid S/N. Maybe they can check their records or help you out with a replacement?

* The disks are worth $50 each new (with free shipping) at Newegg.
* Even if they were originally sold in the U.S., it'll probably cost $20 shipping if you return them together. Double that if you ship them separately. That's if you have shipping materials that meet WD's requirements.
* You'll receive back "refurbished" drives, which I'd not trust.
* It'll take at least an hour to package and ship them. Plus, apparently, hours for you to find the invoices and convince WD to RMA your disks.

Is it worth the time, money, and frustration to get back two used drives that weren't reliable for you the first time?

I just can't believe that out of two of the drives one was over seas and the other not in the system. I know there 50 each now but when i bought them they were high dollar black drives

As for Newegg.com I spoke with them they said they can not locate a order with two drives. So i probably got them from tigerdirect.

As for the S/N there is 3 spots were the numbers are they match and powerd the drive up and that number matches, so i don't under-stand.

There DEC 2006 WD5000KS drives

If the drives were purchased from Dec 2006, I can almost see it. Maybe TD had them in their warehouse for a while and the 3 years has passed by now. Still weird that they wouldn't show up at all. I guess for the future, I'll check the warranty status on new purchases just to double check the warranty. Newegg/TD would probably do a refund if things didn't match up a new drive. Did you have any luck contacting TD?
