A few months ago I purchased a Western Digital USB Series II Hard Drive (120GB). I use it as a secondary backup as well as porting files around for family use and/or work.
Well, with extended disk activity, as in a backup, it eventually just locks up. Windows is working just fine, however. I usually don't end up losing data, but I have to power the hard drive down and then back up again, and hope I didn't lose data and also have to start the backup process over again.
I have tried plugging this into different USB 2.0 ports (on same PC) and also into my PCI USB 2.0 card with the same result.
Could this be the result of something on the motherboard overheating with all that USB activity? Or is it more likely the hard drive itself? I would rather not exchange the drive under warranty just yet if it is something with my PC, and there is a way to fix it.
Thanks!
