Western Digital Upgrade Program - Did I Miss Something?

One of the 1TB Western Digital Green drives failed in my NAS while I was away for the holidays. So I run the tools and determine the drive is bad and an RMA will be needed. So I run thru the RMA process and I am in my warranty and it's all good.

But Western Digital offers an upgrade program. So I think to myself "cool, I'd love to get a 2TB Black drive". So I click upgrade to see prices and the "price" of the 2TB Black is my drive AND $292! Am I missing something? That is more than NewEgg has the drive for and I'd get to keep ~$90 drive too.

Sorry if this is rant-like, but what the heck?

Do you have a link to WD 2TB Blacks on Newegg, I don't see them listed?

I clicked the wrong one on NewEgg, but the black series on ZZF is $310. So the price from WD is still way outta bed. Oh well. Maybe I can just sell a drive to get it instead.

I noticed that a long time ago with WD and APC. Don't know about others. Only a retard would find these manufacturers exchange program a bargain.

they probably give you the value of the scrap metal your old HDD will produce when it's melted down. 😛 $292 vs. $310. I'd take one from WD as it's probably 6 months newer and a few bucks less. But, then again I don't want a WD Green for anything.
