Hi guys and gals, i got a problem with my system recognising my Western Digital Raptor , I have connected the s-ata power connector and the molex power connector (not at the same time ), I have also connected it to the s-ata 1 port on my motherboard, So why does windows not recognise it when i go install Windows. My specs are below.

Abit Av8 3rd eye sck 939 motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ winchester CPU
Tagan 480Watt pSu
ATI 9800 XT
OCZ pc4000 1 gig ram.

Thanks in Advance, Legion

did you press F6 and insert your SATA driver diskette when asked for drive controller software?

search here and in Operating Systems on SATA for more details.

Yeah, Dave is almost certainly correct in whats wrong. Some boards like mine (ASUS P4C800E - Deluxe, Intel 875p chipset) have native support and it detects fine. On many boards though you need to provide drivers during the install.

hi gusy thanks for your help, i tried what you said with the s-ata driver disk and didn't help so i went to my motherboards manufacturer site (www.abit.nl) and downloaded the latist s-ata drivers, placed the relevent drivers on a floppy and tried it, yet again it didn't work, Windows isn't recognising it at the install, what do i do now?

Thanks in advance Legion

Just to make sure, I copied this from ABIT's readme:

yo dude , i tried that as well but didn't work, this is the message windows installer displays

'Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered on and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk -related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Set can not continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

its really starting to bug me now, Its just been one problem after another, so any help would be gratefull.

ah no i don't think so, i thought about that tho but i couldn't see anyway of doing it
my motherboard is a Abit AV8 3rd eye with the latist bios

In your bios under Interdrated Peipherals press onchip IDE devive setup how you want your sata to work reboot and press F 4 TO get into your sata setup array thats all there is to it you still have to press F6 to install the drivers but your array should be ready I see you got the drivers from abit and it should work but many times your operating system has to be installed inorder to install the intel sata drivers good luck

oh and in reply to Alptraum i can't see the drive in the bios.

Thats your problem then. Make sure its set up in the BIOS properly. And then follow the instructions for the Windows install. I don't know your board so I m not sure where you want to go, but Zinn2b seems to know.

hi guys, thanks for all ur input it was much appreciated, 🙂 Just to say i got the problem sorted out, as it was te jumper settings were in correct, but anywho, thanks again.

Legion.

I have a problem beyond this. It finds the drives, I copied the files to floppy. It starts to load OS, but then says, it can't find

VIAsraid.inf
VIAsraid.sys
VIAsraid.cat

Similar thing happened when I had sata hd's connected in the sata-raid plugs w/sata378 controller. It had asked for UlSata.sys from the XP CD which it couldn't find.

Are these files suppose to be in the XP CD? I get the message when floppy is still in the drive. It asks to insert XP CD so I'm pretty sure the files are suppose to be in XP disk.

When I had problem of sata not being detected, it was because I had the sata cables plugged into wrong sata plugs. I have ASUS A8V Deluxe and it has 2 sata and 2 sata raid. So you may want to make sure you have the sata cables plugged into correct place and controller for those ports.

I just don't understand why Windows setup asks for the files again after you have the floppy with those files. Like i have said up above setup is looking for the 3files from the xp cd. When I skip the files and reboot from hd. I get blue screen...
