Western Digital,Maxtor or Seagate?

Or is any of them not reliable? I know HDD's will fail no matter what brand. Some say Maxtors fail more but it can't be that bad of brand considering Maxtor's are all that some stores even carry. My local Office Depot only carries Maxtors for some reason.

I also know some gonna say I will never buy this again or buy that again. How many have you all had die and what brand? Got both 80gb Maxtor and 80gb WD curious which should go in my PC and which into my Xbox.

Had 1 WD and 1 Maxtor die but I have never owned a seagate.

Edit: There really isnt anything to say. Every HD maker has drives that fail. Out of so many drives they manufacture, some will fail. That is fact. Just make sure whatever you buy has a good warranty, then backup your important stuff.

i've had one WD hdd fail one me, it was my lil brother's computer. I had a 10 gb maxtor since 98, and i am stil using it! All of my WD are workig fine as well, those are going 2+ years for me

I think you're pretty safe with either 3.

I've only had Maxtor drives and never had a problem. WD I've heard of more problems with, seagate not sure, though it sounds nicer "seagate", yeah.

Ill repeat what I said before; you can't truly say "OMG, ___ drives are so reliable, whereas _____ drives SUCK".

As long as you have a 3 yr warranty, you are fine.

in this computer there's a 60 gb seagate, 120 gb western digital and a 40 gb fujitsu that was the subject of that lawsuit. all are performing flawlessly...

Seagate all the way. I've had my 80gb for about 3 years now and its still runs quite without problems. I had an older WD 13gb hdd and it runs fine except its noisy as hell, I gave it to my uncle since hes pretty much deaf so it doesn't bother him. We've got a Maxtor 120gb 8Mb cache hdd in one of the rigs in the house and so far so good. If I'm going to buy a hard drive its most likely going to be another seagate.

Doesn't matter. What you really want to worry about are platter density (less platters = more reliability), and fluid or ball berings (fluid = more reliable and quieter). Check out the other forums for exactly what drives possess thiese qualities.

This is rather ON topic it seems.

Hard drive preference is one of the most aggitating topics for me. Everyone has rock solid veiws based on....nothing, nothing at all.
People only go through so many hard drives in their life; If one ever breaks on them, That brand is "crap". The ones that havent broken YET are gifts from god, to that person.

Take me for example:
Western digital is crap!
God gave my my seagate.

Yeah, that pisses me off too.

Just avoid the Hitachi drives. I've had 2 now since they took over from IBM and both were flaky. One's in my HTPC and every week or so it loses its mind and reports the wrong drive info to the BIOS. The old Seagate in there as a slave drive works just fine.

I've got a Maxtor 120 sitting here that's going in there soon...
