I really like Western Digital Harddrives, but they seem to be behind a bit in certain features like Perpendicular Recording... So when will WD come out with a new batch of HDs?

300gb raptor should hopefully be a hybrid drive as well (either a couple of gigs of flash or a really large cache, the 32meg one on the 1tb drive seems to have helped it a bit).

If there is a 300 gig raptor of course. Should be but no one really knows. I wish they would make a 15,000 rpm raptor at 300 gigs.

Hitachi and Seagate both make PMR drives. Hopefully WD will figure out how to do it without violating either company's patents.

Welcome to the AT forums.

There are more companies that are making notebook PMR drives already - I'm pretty sure Fujitsu's 250GB unit is PMR and Toshiba has some too. IDK why it's taking the others so long to put some mainstream units out. There can hardly be anything patentable there that would stand up to challenge. It is basically the same magnetic technology that's been around for decades after all.
