The local Cambridge, MA store had 3 of these left, marked clearance. 2 external ports.
They also had an Evergreen brand firewire card with 3 external and 1 internal port for $59.50, also clearance.
Are either of these a hot deal? I noticed compgeeks also has a no name firewire card for $37. Does brand name matter?

I'm sure someone has a more informed opinion but when I was researching these a while back before I bought one it seemed like most of them were using just one main chip from Texas Instruments and most of the cards were more or less identical.
As long as you stick with major names I think you would be ok.

Maybe not a Hot deal but a good deal nonetheless. I think I paid about $69 for mine about 4 months ago.

yeah they all seem to be a Texas Inst. based card.

I bought one not long ago with 3 external ports for $60.

I bought an SIIG card a few months back and its worthless to me. I am using premiere w/ win 2000 and the card is not supported in that combination. something to do w/ windows 2000 / nt multimedia video codec. If you want it to control a HD its prob fine but if you want to capture digital video, check the specs and compatibility w/ all manufactures involved. Editing, camera, os, software, etc...

I'll sell you an SIIG card cheap.
