I've got the Address memorized now.
"Thinner"? Hmm. I'l have to take a look at these newer drives.
I currently an running both an 80GB and a 160GB WD SE/8MB cache ATA-100 IDE HD, both purchased just before they stopped doing the 3-year warrantee thing. The 80GB is a single-platter model, with very high STR (~58MB/s at start of disk). The 160GB is a slightly older model, possibly 3-platter, it only gets about 49MB/s at start. Then again, my Via KT400 chipset has poor PCI/IDE performance, so that might be holding me back as well.
I've had no problems, and in fact, the 80GB WD was purchased to replace a 60GB Maxtor FDB DM9+ drive that failed catastrophically in less than 6 months. (Thankfully, I was able to save 99.99% of my files using Ghost a week before it completely went on me.) The Maxtor apparently had head damage ever since I first owned it, although I didn't know it then. It slowed down occasionally, for no good reason, and eventually just went. It could have been damaged by the store, it was purchased in a retail-box kit.
Edit: That all being said, the price of WD 80GB JB drives really hasn't come down at all. I paid ~$50 AR for mine, and it was purchased in roughly July of 2003.
