I bought this from newegg for $100, I don't see what's so awesome about it. Its not quiet, not cool, not fast. Just cheap.

Im in the market for a new OS Drive for my gaming machine, but i kind of want more space then a 150gb 10,000 1.5GB/s raptor. Could someone tell me the differances with the platter sizes vs performance on a 640, 750, 1,000 GB drive seeing they are all 3.0GB/s.

Pretty good review. Looks like the OS drive to choose.

bought 2 from CV last week for $95 each. This is a fantastic HD--much faster than my Seagate 7200.10 320 gb and totally silent. The only down side is that the warranty is "only" 3 years, as opposed to Seagate's 5. LOL, in 3 years, 4 TB drives will be the norm.

That looks like an awesome deal, OP. I'd jump on it if I hadn't just bought a new Seagate (I knew I should've waited). That and the fact that the only 5 drives that I've had fail have all been Western Digitals (Out of several Seagates and a couple of Maxtors).

(sigh) They always seemed to fail right after their warranty is up, which makes the 5 year Seagate warranty worth it for me.

Got it a while back from Directron for $99. Never noticed the HD sound and my case is open next to me. It is 2 platters of 320 gig for 640 vs. the Spinpoint F1 which is 3 platters of 250gig for 750. So in general, just because it has less mass to spin, it's quieter and requires less power.
