Thanx to the BrandsforLess coupon, I finally managed a really sweet deal on this hard drive. I've been waiting for a coupon/rebate for a long time. Here's what I did

1. Purchase the Retail 45gb Western Digital 5400RPM hard drive (WD450AARTL) at JandR.com through Brandforless.com ($169.99 + $8.50 (S&H) = $178.50)
2. Use the $29 off $79 rebate at BrandforLess.com (-$29.00)
http://www.brandsforless.com/shop_promo.asp
3. Use the Western Digital $30 mail-in rebate (-$30)
http://www.westerndigital.com/promos/30-reb4.html

Total = $178.50 - $29.00 - $30 = $119.50

I am not sure if the free shipping at BrandforLess.com applies since I already used the $29 off $79 rebate. I applied it for it anyways. Use this link for the free shipping rebate
http://www.brandsforless.com/shop_rebate.asp

If you manage the free shipping, the total should now be $111.00

What would have been even better is if Computers4Sure had this hard drive in stock. They have it listed for $159.99. JandR.com would pricematch to $159.99 making the total $101.00!!

Sam's has the same drive for $149, so it's $109 after rebate.

Save yourself all that trouble.

Good luck.

Oh yeah...I guess I did not look hard enough then. But wait a minute, do you have a link to the hard drive at Sams Club? (I checked their website and could not find it. I am not a member. Do I have to be a member to see it?) Because then I can pricematch with Sams club to bring down the price to $99.49 w/o the free shipping rebate (or $90.99 with the free shipping rebate).

5400 RPM.. isn't that a bit slow? I have an old Seagate Medalist 9GB that turns at 7200 (you could fry an egg on the damned thing). I couldn't imagine seeking through 45GB at 5400 RPM.

This has been discussed in other forums and threads and in almost EVERY case Sams will NOT allow you to purchase something with this giftcard unless you are a member. Also for most people 5400 Rpm drives are just fine. You can't compare the older 5400 Rpm drives to the newer ones. Some people like myself are looking for upgrade paths for a TIVO. The original drives in these is only 4400 Rpm's so these are just fine. Lower Rpm drives in these are preferable since it cuts down the noise.

HotDealFinder --- the 45 gig has much higher per/platter density then your 9gig drive, meaning in the same amount of rotation the 45 gig drive can read much more data, in other words, most of the really big drives like the 60 gig and 80 gig drives, will perform relatively well even with the slower rotational speed.
