western digital 250gb and lag time

i justed installed my western digital 250gb.
its running on the controller card as master with a dvd writer set as slave.
the old hard drive was on IDE 1 on the mobo. but IDE 1 has nothing on it now, while IDE 2 on mobo has two dvd drives .

im in window XP now, n im noticing lag time just moving the mouse around! the motion isnt smooth as before. n when that happens, winamp stutters while playing mp3s. this never happened before as im runnin XP with 512mb of ram n athlon xp 2500.

any advice would b great! im thinking of fresh install since i installed the wd through imaging from the old drive.

Just for kicks, I'd place that dvd burner on IDE#1...and see if that helps. Controller cards are supposed to be only for hard drives, not meant for cd-roms and such....this could be old school advice, maybe todays devices are ok on controller cards....probably makes sense anyway to seperate the burner with the hard drive.

i pulled the writer off completely.
theres still stuttering going on with the sound and mice movements 🙁
