Western Digital 1TB Blue (WD10EZEX)

Just a heads up, I got this drive for backup purposes and I thought I’d post its’ HD Tune score:

All of the results I’ve seen so far paint very poor random access (~20ms), but it looks like newer firmware has made my unit much more respectable. So if you’re getting this drive, try to get one with newer firmware.

I won’t do a review for this one, but it’s much faster than the 1TB Black FAEX that it replaced. It writes files at 90-110 MB/sec compared to the Black’s 70-80MB/sec for the same workload.

Also FYI there two new Black drives: 3TB and 500GB. Based on the spec sheets they’re using at least 800GB platters, maybe even 1TB for the little one.
