Starting at COMPUSA Sunday Jan. 26 through Saturday Feb. 1, 2003 Western Digital Hard Drive Model# WD1800BBRTL (2 MB Buffer) for $159.99 after rebates. PM to another store for a lower price.

Buslink 40X12X48 CDRW Model# RW4048 for $19.99 after rebate. Looks like a Lite-On because it has the SMART-BURN technology.

Ad states that these are in-store only.

Good point. But, with a firmware update (providing the drive is a Lite On drive) one should be able to flash to a 48x drive. However, the drive is not a 48x to begin with.

How can you tell if it is a Lite-On?

hmmmm... anyone know if THIS applies to the online CompUSA ad???

If so, I might head down to CUSA and try to pick one of these up for $19.99 out the door :)

OMG trying to PM at CrapUSA is like trying to pull teeth the only "successful" PM I've gotten there was when the manager agreeded to PM but I had to buy a warranty that cost of the differance that I was PMing. Talk about a waste of time.

just picked one up at the minnetonka, minnesota store. they had 4 left, i forgot to print out the $5 off for in-store pruchase coupon, and the csr just printed one up for me and gave me the discount. gonna be like $23.50 after rebates.

also, i didnt see anyone post about the verbatim 48x12x48 for 19.99 ar, is that not a better deal?

well, anyone in CT, i suggest you give this one a try... ended up getting it for $19.99 BEFORE the $30MIR thanks to the consumer protection laws :) The Milford/Orange store was OOS, but the Norwalk store had 4 left. Good luck.

I payed 199.99 in the store, when I showed the clerk at the chekout the printout that said I would save 40 more buy buying in the store he figured that it would be a rebate that I would have to print out from CompUSA's website. Now that I have printed out the rebate form for the $100 I do not see anything about the other $40. Were they suppost to take that off at the store in form of cash?

yeah the ad says, show this to receive the lowered price ... so you probably want to go back in and talk to a manager. they're website actually says "save $40 by buying this instore"

Yep. That almost happened to me, on the Maxtor 60GB 7200 for $70 out-the-door deal. Guy tried to tell me that is was really a rebate, starting next week. Considering that most of the other items shown in that weekly special ad said "after rebate", or "after instant savings and rebate", but the drive only said "instant savings", and didn't list a rebate on the web site, that was unlikely. It turned out that the "rebate next week" was on a different WD drive, not the Maxtor drive that I purchased. Glad I didn't back down.

The $19.99 40x12X48 CDRW@ CompUSA is NOT a rebadged Lite-on under the Buslink brand name. It used to be (I got one) but the current model (at least what I found at our local store) is actually a Cyberdrive 40X16X48. It gave me problems in the RW mode so I returned it.
