stinking tax in TX. Still a good deal though I guess, I just wish I didn't have to pay that tax.

I forgot my password, so I requested that my password be sent to my email address. It's been 15 minutes; there may be a huge queue
in their email servers.

I'm getting one, and will sell my current 80G.

Not hardly! The difference is having a drive with a 30 day warranty from Dell Upgrades vs a 3 year warranty with the Best Buy retail packaged drive. There have been many people burned who purchased these drives from Dell back in April assuming that they had a 1 year warranty from Dell only to find out that in fact it was only 30 days and their warranty had already expired when their drive failed. The one year warranty only applies if you purchased the drive and had it preinstalled it in a Dell system that is currently covered by a Dell warranty plan. In addition, since Western Digital offers NO manufacturer warranty on these drives, none of the credit card purchase protection plans that offer extended warranties on purchases will cover these drives. This has been confirmed with all the American Express product protection plans. Double nothing is still nothing. :Q

I ordered a few hours ago, and no e-mail either. don't really think it's a big deal though. my order status page says expected ship date is next Wed.

Are there really a significant number of people who have had problems with this drive failing? i bought with Blue, so hopefully the Buyer's Assurance plan and extended warranty will help.

Buyers assurance doubles the manufacturer warranty only . Since these drive have no manufacturer warranty, Buyers Assurnce does not apply to this drive since it has no manufacturer's warranty to begin with. You can verify by calling Buyer's assurance at 1-800-225-3750. For drive failure related issues, check the threads over at FW or on the DEllTalk forum at Dell.com

After reading your post im seriously deciding whether or not to cancel my order. I tried calling dell again to confirm the length of the warranty but i was on hold forever and they were playing the entire backstreet boys albuma nd i just couldnt take it anymore. On pricewatch you can get an "official" WD for only 180...Im thinking about just doing that. I knew this seemed a little to good to be true.

My Click Citi card has satisfaction guarantee clause, and I guess some of other cards carry this feature, also.
3 months(?), you don't like it, return it. If the vendor doesn't take it, the bank will take it.

I called them and got through this time.
1 year warranty CONFIRMED.
Also if you have a dell system already your warranty would be extended to match the system.

It has been confirmed by many people including my self who had problems with this drive that the Dell warranty is 30 days . The card that Dell sends with the drive also states clearly that unless you received the drive with a system purchase that the warranty is 30 days.
Here is the link that you requested..

whoops... guess that didn't register. no manufacturer's warranty means that you can't double it with Blue (2x0=0)...

what about return protection? 90 days is still a little better than 30 days, i guess. since product failure rates for hard drives generally follow the bathtub curve, hopefully if it makes it past that first 90 days, it'll be good for the long haul!

starting to wonder if it's worth it to just get a retail one now!

The warranty issue comes up everytime Dell puts these drives up for sale. Yes some of the Dell CSR's are total idiots and they can't even read their own warranty information correctly. I did my research before I bought this drive when it was $142 delivered. The warranty is one year. All the warranty information is on Dell's website. I Read the warranty information back to a CSR who was all confused and they had to give me to a supervisor. He stated that yes the warranty was one year. I told him that the CSR's were giving out false information and he stated that they "were working on it". Now I know this issue will never die due to Dell's poor customer service, but I just thought I would tell you guys about my experience. My drive has worked fine recording video everyday, so I have not had to test customer service lately. My advice is to read and print out all the warranty information on Dell's website. The warranty issue was also covered in detail in the previous hot deal threads if you feel like reading through hundreds of posts.
