Western Digital 10K SCSI any good?

I used the u160 version of that HDD and it is LOUD and runs very HOT !

I would go with IBM or Seagate.

Id say get em. I have a atlas 10k scsi and a WD 10k scsi. get 61 on the atlas and 68 on the WD [or so] on hd tach. that is a good deal. maybe buy you a noisy fan to mask the noise. heh

for $200 you bertter hop on that deal, other wise I'm goint to kick your arse, take your $200 and get them myself 😉

You can buy the Western Digital Ultra160, 10000rpm, at very reasonable price. WD stopped their SCSI product late last years, but pledge to support the full 5 years warranty on the drives. The WD SCSI line is essentially the IBM design and uses all IBM parts for heads, motor etc. This is the best buy in high end SCSI as far as I know. You can find several sources at PriceWatch.

It got very good review at storage review. I use one on my system now and is very happy with the performance. In fact, my benchmark is even better than those shown by Storage Review. The drive does get hot, but not excessively so by a 10K drive standard. (Mine is 16 degrees F above the case air temperature in an Addtronics 7890A.)

Here is the storage review
