Sorry to offer a contrary opinion, but I disagree with the actions of all involved. These WB assholes do not hurt anyone. All they do is say things people don't want to hear, at the most insensitive times, but actual harm, zero. These town retards beat a guy for what he thinks and says, fucking stupid and criminal. Obviously there was a conspiracy in place to deny them their free speech rights as well. Way sicker than anything I have ever heard about the WB guys doing. Speech has no bearing in law, actions do. It's that way for a reason, to protect YOU from tyranny, and actual harm. You're all wrong wrong wrong.

With all freedom comes responsibility. As in you take responsibility for the actions you take. You use a funeral as a place to spout your crap, be prepared to take the repercussions of your actions.

Plus as has been proven and spouted by liberals all over, you can curtail someones rights if it's for the greater good of the public, AKA suspending the 4th amendment for air travel.
It's the greater good of the public to not listen to these idiots at the funeral.

There rights were not curbed. Blocking ones vehicles isn't curbing ones rights. Taking them in for questioning isn't curbing one of their freedom of speech. If no false arrest was made, no crime was committed. I believe in freedom of speech, but in being free to speak your word, you better be prepaired to get punched in the mouth if you say something offensive.
What you don't understand is that freedom of speech is limited. The limitations of it have been upheld by the SCOTUS.

It seems to me, more people are showing their partisan beliefs because the story says that Fred is a Democrat and it's twisting some serious panties because the liberals kept painting this guy as a Republican.

I find it funny that a person whose sig indicates he's a gun nut seems to also have no problem with limits to freedom of speech. These WBC assholes are some of the worst scum in this country, but even they deserve to have their rights upheld and to not be harassed by the law. And as far as getting punched for saying something offensive, if you punch someone you should be prepared to get charged with assault, and knowing the WBC to get sued as well.

You have a right to free speech, there is no right to violence.

Actually violence is a right in many cases. Self defense, in case of threats, abuse, disorderly conduct, panic inducing, terrorism etc etc

Heck, didn't someone get shot for just showing a gun?

I thought you guys were prepared to kill for first amendment rights, even if douchebags use them for bad purposes..?

If it was anyone else, I don't think people would be cheering about the police curbing rights... seems sorta hypocritical to me.

Assuming the story's true, the only problem I have is the part the cops played. Having freedom of speech is also having the freedom to get your ass beat by civilians. If you aren't willing to fight publicly for what you say, maybe you shouldn't be saying it.

In civilized society speech should have no consequences besides more speech. By arguing your position thusly, you state you agree that someone can "take it too far" in what they say, and should expect a violent physical reaction. Hogwash! That's childish bullshit. Responsible people are not dictated by their emotions. The consequences for ACTIONS are clearly defined in law. Your logic is so slippery slope fail on that first point.

The second part of you argument is of equal fail. I do not agree that the Constitution allows for curtailing any rights enumerated in the Bill of rights. They are all prefaced by phrases like, "shall not be infringed", which means, shall not be compromised in ANY way. What I do believe is that people have been hoodwinked into such attitudes, and that an entire series of absolutely illegal laws have been passed and largely unchallenged. I believe the authors of such laws are willfully committing treason, and I think people are retarded to go along with it, and complicit in treason, at their own expense.

Osama Bin Laden said after the murders, (I'm paraphrasing) "America will suffocate under the weight of it's own reaction. They will scurry like ants to protect themselves. We Muslims welcome death, and this is something the American will never understand." and he was dead right. The moment we even started debating laws like USAPATRIOT, we lost.

I would rather die in the side of a building that get treated like a criminal at an airport. Consequently, I do not fly commercial airlines.

lol sphinxy...you are really digging deep on this one.

The Westboro idiots impede on others' rights in hopes of getting a reaction they can sue over. Its their source of income. IF things really did go down the way it was reported, then they got what they wanted.

As reported, no one's rights were violated and justice was served. It will be up to the courts to figure out otherwise.

What world do you live in?

Consequence of speech is speech? Talking to someone does not detain them, neutralize them, nor, very often shut them up if they are a nuisance.

I just want to comment that I find it amazing here that in one thread, everyone's telling Hal9000 that freedom of speech means the right to burn a Koran in public. And then there's this thread. As much as I'm offended by the Westboro idiots, I find it amazing that I'm, at least somewhat, in agreement with SphyinxsinapS

PRAISE GOD FOR DEAD AND INJURED BY TORNADOES AND STORMS IN MISSISSIPPI!

Six confirmed dead and more than 30 injured as severe weather moves through with golf-ball size hail and damaging winds.

GodSmack!

God is marching through Mississippi in great wrath for your slanderous lies out of Brandon, Rankin County, MS! Media reported nation-wide that your cops conspired with the mob to stop a funeral protest that WBC never scheduled or attended.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse. (Ro. 1:18-20.)

Wow, what a bunch of lowlifes.

I am sure the WBC will win back a ton of money on every angle they can cook up over this.

Sure, it felt great to stop them from protesting and one of them got their asses kicked - but, they will file a lawsuit and come at the next victims even harder.

I understand the emotional pain of losing a loved one is great. But, I am almost certain, that if NO ONE and I mean NO ONE gave them ANY attention, we would not be hearing about them and they would go back to in breeding and eating their own snot.

They are manipulating people. And, this event may yeild the biggest profit for them.

Bet they don't have the balls to come back to Mississippi. :awe:

And that would have worked well during the women rights movement, right?

Us men should have just beat those women back into the kitchens and factories. The notion that you have to be physically superior to have your voice heard is ridiculous.
