West Virginia: The state no one cares about.

West Virginia is 96% White and about 3% Black.

Only 75% of the states teens graduated High School, and only 14% of them went on to get a Bachelor's degree or higher.

Some quotes that Obama's foot soldiers have heard in West Virginia while campaigning:

?I'll never vote for a black person.?

?White people [should] look out for white people.?

?Hamas votes BHO!?

?He's a half-breed and he's a Muslim. How can you trust that??

?Hang that darky from a tree!?

These are actual quotes. Obama supporters are afraid to campaign in West Virginia because of the HIGH concentration of bigotry and racists. Anyone who truly knows West Virginia is very aware that it is the most racist state in the US.

But Hillary shouldn't consider this a win. In fact, it is McCain who will win this state in the election.West Virginia has more American Legions and VFW posts than it does high schools. And a very large percentage of their youth serve in the military. They have a lower education profile, a lower income, and they have plenty of pride and belief in family.

Obama will just have to write-off West Virginia come November.

I would be even more impressed with him if he went there and did his best to speak to the people openly and honestly. Even if he still loses, the symbolic gesture would still be of some benefit to his overall campaign. That he would have to balls to walk into such a place, knowing its an uphill battle would make.. uh.. some kind of statement, I dunno.

To quote Steven Colbert, it just feels like the right thing to do.

Those quotes could be true but rather pathetic if the Obama campaign is going to use that as an excuse to not campaign.

What will happen after his presidency falls into sub 50% approval rates? Not visit that half of the country because he is afraid they may hurt his administration's feelings?

btw I highly doubt your claims either way and question the purpose of your post.

Bill Clinton carried WV in 1992 and 1996... if Gore had been able to carry it in 2000, he would have been elected president.

but by all means, write it off.

No reason to waste time or money in a state that vote factor into the general election.

Obama can make more of an impact in states with larger populations, more independents, more Congressional elections up for grabs, etc.

This is about the health of the party, not Hillary's last minute plea for mercy.

75% High School graduation rate is above the national average.

I'm going to call BS on all the quotes... ?I'll never vote for a black person.? No true racist would use "black person" in this quote.

Even if Hillary win West Virginia big and Obama gets the nomination, both Hillary and Senator Byrd will work their butts off to see Obama carry West Virginia in the general. West Virginia seldom goes GOP in the general election historically speaking.

Nah, not elitist. WV doesn't matter. It's only a state. Do Montana/South Dakota matter only because they're likely to vote Obama even though they'll go Rep in November? WV has more people than those 2 combined.

"Hillary shouldn't consider this a win." I agree. 65-20 isn't a win, it's an embarassment for the front runner. No democrat has won the presidency since 1916 without winning WV, and if WV had voted dem in 2000 and 2004, we wouldn't have had Bush. Go ahead, ignore them, just like the voters in FL/OH/PA/MI will ignore Obama come fall.

This post should serve as a reminder for anyone who's delusional enough to believe that racism is no longer an issue in this country. It's clearly abundant in West Virginia. If you still have any doubts, check out this video clip of WV voters explaining why they do or do not support Obama:

Undecided voter Wanda Gibson is less than excited about both Clinton and Obama, but she actually fears Obama, because he's black.

Nice.

If he can't handle racism, he's not ready to be president, imo.

If NOLA and Philly are chocolate cities, as announced publicly, why should I care if WV has some white chocolate cities?

DC is a "chocolate city with a marhsmallow center", remember?

West virginia is a beautiful area. Before you go insulting a bunch of people, you should realize that it may be against the forum rules. Probably a lot of mean vulgar things people could say about California while we are at it.

Do we really want to insult everyone in West Virgina like that? Does that make you a (Insert Exlpetive Here)?

White people have a right to live there. It is a free country.

If that part of the country has a lot of under-educated people with little job potential it should fit right into the Democratic Policy of overtaxation to help the poor. They should be good Democrats.

What is the difference between poor white populations and poor black populations? Poor people should be able to understand and help each other.

Except that WV is run by Robert Byrd...KKK member and Civil Rights Act filibuster specialist and well known King Of Pork.

OP you should post a credible link to support the claims in your OP. I don't doubt the quotes - I have heard similar myself - but you really need a link to back them up.

Obama doesn't really need electoral votes in the fall to win. He got hope and change.

That is exactly what I was trying to explain in my post! :)

"Home of the Hillbillies and proud of it!"

"I've had enough of Hussein."

"I've had enough of "Hussein."

:p

Perhaps that's Bush's fault. ;)

But, nice, one woman admitted that she's afraid of black people. Wonderful. What year is this?

I really dislike that sort of pride in ignorance, whether it be glorifying ghetto lifestyles or white-trash-icity..

Pick up a fucking book lady!

Why is it that when whites vote for the white candidate, it's racism... but when 90% of blacks vote for the black candidate, somehow it's not?

Double standards are great.

Hit me up when black people don't vote for white people because they're white and not because there's a candidate that they feel can best represent their interest. Funny how there's always been a showing of black voters voting for white candidates since that group won their right to vote and yet how many black Presidential candidates have we had? A couple?
