Stock up on these boys, I hear Ebay a callin!!

CHARLESTON, W.Va. ? Gov. Bob Wise sent a letter to Abercrombie & Fitch (search) on Monday demanding that the clothing retailer stop selling a T-shirt that spoofs the state with the slogan, "It's All Relative in West Virginia."

Wise said the T-shirt depicts "an unfounded, negative stereotype" of the state.

"I write to you today to demand that you immediately remove this item from your stores and your print and online catalogues," Wise wrote. "In addition, these shirts must be destroyed at once to avoid any possibility of resale and proof be given thereof."

Abercrombie & Fitch spokesman Tom Lennox declined to say whether the New Albany, Ohio-based company would comply with the governor's request. He said the T-shirt, which features the slogan on an outline of the state, has been selling well at $22.50.

"Abercrombie and Fitch was born and raised in the USA, and we honor all 50 states in the union," Lennox said.

West Virginia is not the only state that is spoofed on an Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirt. Another shirt's slogan is "New Hampshire. 40 million squirrels can't be wrong."

A&F has been using a lot of low brow marketing and merchandise for a long time now trying to get the youth market. After the over expansion they are really pulling out all the stops from their pseudo-pedophilia cataloges to distastful merchandise such as this. The company is trash, run by narrow-minded shock sellers.

They've backed their company into a corner because kids don't have money to spend, and parents aren't going to buy their kids shirts that say "Mustache Rides, $1". They've effectively marketed themselves right out of the market!

What's wrong with the slogan "It's All Relative in West Virginia"? Sounds like a family values promotion to me.

Or . . . is it the Newtonians trying to reclaim the high ground in physics from Einstein? "All Relative" indeed.

That guy Einstein wasn't a Christian, you know. :Q

And . . . he was an immigrant!

Damn heathen immigrants! :|

I dont understand that one myself and I live in New Hampshire.
We do have squirrels here. Are they making fun of that? All the states in the country have squirrels to my knowledge.

Despite not particularly liking A&F or their marketing, I do hope they tell the good governor to blow it out his earhole. That's not a "request", that's a demand, and an unreasonable one at that.

Also, just my interpretation (I was stumped for a minute too) .. New Hampshire is full of "nuts"?

drove through oklahoma once. A whole lot of nothing separated by signs telling you not to pick up hitchhikers as they might be from the nearby prison.

I have a demand for the WV governor: Stop being a douchbag! When that happens maybe A&F will stop selling whatever shirts it wants. If I were a betting man, I wouldn't bet on either happening anytime soon.

The expression is "fair to middling"...unless you were referring to a T-shirt about I-20 through Texas?

he was a jew.

:)

But, like all great politicians and thinkers throughout history, he would have been atheist today.

Just as all those great men and women would have agreed with my political views and my interpretation of the U.S. Constitution.

I think it originally had something to do with the "new" state abbreviations. Oklahoma used to be abbreviated Okla.

I don't understand what people do all day in order to find old threads like this. Are you just typing random shit into the forum search and then exclaiming, "This is relevant to my interests!"

My only comments is, as the West Virginia Governor blasts Abercrombie offensive T-Shirts, the sale of said T-shirts will go up up up. All that wonderfull free publicity.

Their plates should have the slogan, "You like tolls, don't you?"
or "Texas' Hat."
