I finally got around to watching his first movie today. I had seen all of the rest prior. I must say, I really like this guy. My only criticism is that he reuses the same actors too much.

Bottle Rocket - His first and my least favorite of the bunch. Just watched this today.
Rushmore - His second movie. Very excellent, I thought it was hilarious. Watched this last night.
The Royal Tenenbaums - My favorite of all of his movies. I've seen this 2-3 times over the past couple years.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zizzou - My second favorite movie of his. This was his first movie that I saw.
The Darjeeling Limited - Watched this ~3 months ago, I thought it was pretty decent, though it's not as memorable as the rest.

Tenenbaums > Life Aquatic > Rushmore > Darjeeling > Bottle Rocket.

Anyone else a fan?

For me its:

Bottle Rocket > Rushmore > Tenenbaums > LA > Darjeeling

He gets ripped pretty bad for Life Aquatic and Darjeeling. I don't feel like those are nearly as strong as his first movies. They are still more interesting than most.

Bottle Rocket is hilarious though - by far my favorite. That might just be because I saw Rushmore too many times.

Same here, except for 2 things: BR and Rushmore can alternate depending on my mood and I haven't seen Darjeeling yet. I own all of his other movies though, so I'll pick it up at some point.

I really liked all of his movies except Darjeeling Limited. His methods are getting a little long in the tooth by now. Seriously, the slow motion shot coupled with 60's-70's pop music wore thin like 3 movies ago. And the characters were a little too mopey, even by Wes Anderson standards. In fact, I actively disliked pretty much all of the non-Indian characters by the end of the film.

So yeah, lets hope Owen Wilson starts co-writing with him again. His films have been going downhill since The Royal Tenenbaums.

he reuses actors b/c well, Owen Wilson co-writes most of those. So they're kind of tandem creators for the stories. A lot of directors reuse actors in everything, so it's not unusual.

I love his stuff, and I rank them this way

Tenenbaums>Rushmore>Bottle Rocket>Life Aquatic>>>Darjeeling. I just couldn't get into Darjeeling. I'd like to give it another shot.....but I'm not sure I can sit through it again.

Rushmore has the single best soundtrack of any movie ever.
All of his movies are simply great.

"Would you say Coultrain?"

1. Life Aquatic 2. Tenenbaums 3. Bottle Rocket 4. Darjeeling 5. Rushmore, if I had to put them in order.

I definitely recommend Rushmore to people who have never seen any of his work. If you like that one you'll find something to enjoy in the others.

For me it's: Bottle Rocket > Tenenbaums > Rushmore > Life Aquatic

I haven't seen Darjeeling yet, but I plan to.

I haven't seen Bottle Rocket or Darjeeling yet... I feel like I'm missing out. For me, Royal Tenenbaums is far and away the best of the bunch. Rushmore and Life Aquatic are comparable, both very good movies but not up to the sheer brilliance of Tenenbaums.

He was very much an acquired taste for me. I wasn't impressed when I first saw Royal Tenenbaums but then I saw Life Aquatic and I loved the off humor. So, I went back and watched the Tenenbaums again and loved it the second time. I've seen Darjeeling Limited and I thought it was good, but not great. I also still need to watch Bottle Rocket and Rushmore.

I agree with this. The general off-beat humor of his films is why I like em so much.
