not me directly, but:

father - Sgt First Class, Infantry/Radio Operator, US Army, active 1969-1972 (served two tours in Vietnam)
father-in-law - Lt. Colonel, US Air Force, C-5 Pilot, active 1974 - 1995 (served in Desert Storm.)

1st Lieutenant, Field Artillery. Heavy artillery (8 inch). 1978-1984; mostly reserve. Glad I did it.

Only got activated once: January 1981. Immediately released 'cuz Reagan got what he wanted.

"Artillery lends dignity to what would otherwise be a vulgar brawl." :D

My dad was in the Army for 22 years in the Medical Service Corps as a doctor (social worker), died while on Active Duty as a Lt. Col. Uncle was in the navy, one grandpa was in the Army, another in the Navy.

I tried AF ROTC for two years, had a scholarship and all that, but decided I didn't want to live the military way for the rest of my life.

cipher00, I guess my spelling was never perfect, LOL I do feel for you sir, to have been encumbered by that 8 inch Howitzer.. :) She's a mean machine but I spent more time replacing PACKS in them than watching them shoot.. :) Now the M270 is a real sweet machine though.. :)

Ummm... yes and no... Went to the army, got severe allergic reaction from the clothes used there, was hospitalized for a month (after 3 days of service), and was relieved from duty.

Finnish Defence Force, combat engineers. In case you want to know.

NO, I was in maintenance so I was outside in 20-35 degree below zero temps installing and maintaining G&C packages and warheads.

I had the capsule training for launch but the Officers had the final say.
