Were there other (contributing) reasons why Spain was singled out for attack on 3/11?

As I was driving in from work this morning I heard an interview with the Judge investigating the 3/11 Madrid bombings. Apparently he feels that there were other contributing factors (not just having troops in Iraq) into why Spain was singled out.

Apparently, they found a video tape (near where the suspects blew themselves up when they were surrounded by police) that feature masked terrorists threatening more attacks in the future. They cited that Spain must return to being an Islamic state or something. Apparently, it is still painful for some of them that Spain was lost to the West a long time ago. In 2001, bin Laden made a video tape and referred to Spain by its Islamic name and said that it must be returned to the Islamic world.

This reminded me of an recent editorial in the Washington Post by some Spanish official that said that one time he had a nice visit with an Iman. At the end of the visit the Iman said something like, "Don't worry, we'll rescue Spain from the corrupt West soon".

My feeling is that the troops in Iraq were a contributing factor but not the only factor into why Spain was attacked. It was kind of like the straw that broke the camel's back for these terrorists.

I'll just have to assume you made a spelling error and meant "IMAM".

"IMAN" is a former model and actress with a line of cosmetics.
