California that is. Number on for mass murder (four people or more) in the US. 12% of the population, 20% of the mass murders. Toughest gun laws of the fifty states. I have absolutely no idea why that is, who's willing to take a stab at it?

You MUST provide a valid link when putting forth such very specific statistics. Not doing so constitutes trolling.

My guess would be some sort of cherry picking of stats or motivated reasoning combined with small numbers of events. Would have to see the numbers to be sure though.

Regardless, states enacting tough gun laws is not very effective as it’s super easy to get around them by simply buying guns in states with really lax laws. For example about 75% of guns used in crimes in New York come from other states.

I'm going to guess it gang related and right leaning folks doing the murdering.

I’m going to guess that it’s an extremely specific type of crime with a very small number of cases each year.

The main reason this sounds like cherry picking is that California is basically exactly in the middle when it comes to homicide rate.

How about California has a wonderful quality of life and worthless lazy self centered vicious piece of scum head here by the droves to suck from that beautiful California milky titty created by liberal thinking.

Maybe it's that people can go outside all year. Or maybe conservatives just like to kill people if they don't live under a police state. Of course it could also just be Southern California where the competition is viciously intense on who can be the phoniest.

Yes, we need a source from the OP. Google so far does not corroborate.

Here's a list of mass shootings (and others) in CA, tracked since 1965:

There are 32 incidents, which isn't all that many for a 55 year period in our most populace state. And several do not meet the "4 or more dead" criteria. Some have fewer deaths. Some are spree killings.

There were five by the broad definition employed in that wiki between this year and last. Seems a low number to identify as a statistical trend.

I'll take some citations from the OP. Funny how he didn't bother including them.
It was information from a radio show I was listening to. I didn't get to hear the whole thing, but the bit I caught was interesting. It was the kgo afternoon show today, perhaps there is a podcast?

You either heard something out of context, or you heard BS.

There is no way to compare states to one and other for number of mass shootings for a single year and get a valid result as the numbers are too low. If your source was making a long term comparison, then I count about 20 from my link which meet that definition. Since 1965. Try adjusting that for population then and comparing it to other states.

Since CA has 6x the population of the "average state" (39 million v. 6.5 million pop) then adjusting for pop puts the number at 4 mass shootings in 55 years.

The entire concept of it is bunk.

Why not do some research and try to corroborate what you think you heard or at least provide a linkable source?

This seems to agree with what I heard.
Hardly. California has a population of about 40 million. Kansas has a population of about 3 million. Therefore, normalized for population, Kansas has more mass shootings per capita per year than California. So does Utah. And Arkansas. And South Carolina. And Nebraska. Nevada is more than double California. I could go on, but it is pretty clear you have no point to make.

That would be the third time in this thread that someone has tried to explain to Greenman that mass shootings must be measured on a per capita basis. Or for that matter, all shootings. All crime statistics, actually.

Good luck.

I love gun nutter threads. They inadvertently admit that gun laws don’t work and the only solution is a complete ban and removal of all firearms.

The OP’s apparent laziness to not even bother researching the facts before making a troll thread prevented him from seeing that a lot of the recent shootings were caused by righties.

Congrats OP, not only have you shown us the way forward to minimizing mass shootings but you’ve also managed to highlight the growing threat of right wing domestic terrorism.

NICE TRY....

But EVERYONE wants to live out in good old CA.
Who wouldn't?
Great weather, tons of beaches, people with only one butts unlike the midwest where everyone carries the weight of three people, people are educated unlike the morons in the south that vote for Trump, there is soooo much to do, exercise abound with so many ways to get exercise that exercise and heath almost can not be avoided, beautiful tans, swimsuit and bikinis, and on and on I could go.
So many reasons I could write a book.
We love California. Everyone loves California.
People that live out there love it, and those that do not are JEALOUS AS HELL.
THAT is why the issue with so many homeless.
People migrate out to CA for the weather and for the fun and for the hopes of living the good life, however in all reality they lack the education or ability or the skills to find and retain a decent job. So.... they become homeless but rather live in a tent than move back to...... HELL i.e. the MidWest.

I LOVE CA.
I wouldn't let a few gun shots OR a few earthquakes scare me.
I'm too busy working on my great tan.
And if you are lucky enough to live near Blacks Beach the tan can be from head to toe.

California full of outward social justice rich liberals with a selfish judgmental conservative inner core.
