What is happening is nothing short of historic. The American workers' share of the increase in national income since November 2001, the end of the last recession, is the lowest on record. Employers took the money and ran. This is extraordinary, but very few people are talking about it, which tells you something about the hold that corporate interests have on the national conversation.

Sad but true.

The study is very clear on this point. The bulk of the gains did not go to workers, "but instead were used to boost profits, lower prices, or increase C.E.O. compensation."

:disgust:

Corporations really need to start thinking more about their employees. Face it, the C.E.O. already makes enough.

Bah. More tinfoil-wearing collectivists! :D

Seriously, hampering the purchasing power of the middle class doesn't seem like the best long term strategy for growth to me.

Nothing here to get excited about. Any time a corporation takes it in the shorts, like most did when the market took a nose dive, they are going to do that in order to make their bottom line look better. Investors want to see profitable companies, and that's exactly what companies are doing right now. As the economy continues to expand, companies will hire more. It's how things work.

This will work itself out, one way or the other. If the people don't get theirs through payrolls, they'll get it at the polls.

Maybe a new president could effect policy to actually spend money in this country rather than giving it to Middle Eastern countries. The money handouts to all these countries really needs to stop. They should take care of themselves and not get my tax money.

You do realize that lots of the money spent over there is going to American contractors, right? This means that it's actually going to American corporations and providing jobs to many people here.

Shift the taxation burden to those receiving the benefits of this productivity.
