Database Developer / Web Analytics
The Database Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing ETL (Extracting, Transforming, and Loading) decision support systems using Perl and Transact SQL, and SQL Server in a Windows environment. As a member of the Business Information team, you will interact with business personnel at all levels to determine information requirements and develop systems to support product development and sales strategies.
Responsibilities
* Responsible for development and support of custom ETL processes using Perl and SQL.
* Design physical and logical data models to support new application and reporting systems.
* Optimize data structures to enhance load times and end user data access response times.
* Creating processes to ensure optimal data quality.
* Work with end users to determine information requirements.
* Ad hoc analysis and reporting.
Skills/Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree with 3+ year's software development experience.
* Extensive knowledge of Web traffic tracking systems, databases and concepts.
* Knowledge of Perl for parsing and processing web logs and large text files.
* Knowledge of data warehousing concepts including dimensional modeling a plus.
* Java and/or Mysql experience a plus.
Information Retrieval Software Architect
Business.com is seeking a passionate Information Retrieval Software Architect candidate to work as part of a team to design and develop a variety of web applications.
Responsibilities
* Reporting to the VP of Engineering, the candidate will work as part of a team to implement and evaluate new algorithms for information extraction, information retrieval, machine learning, and natural language processing.
* Candidate will be responsible for designing and developing systems capable of discovering, extracting and manipulating web data for use on the Business.com site.
* Candidate will work close to the data, understanding its intricacies and interpretation.
* Partner with counterpart in Product Management to manage the development of all Information Retrieval and Search systems.
* Aid in Business Intelligence to create a feedback loop from Search systems into finance and strategy.
Skills/Qualifications
* Background in machine learning, information retrieval, and Web data mining.
* 3-5 years of software development experience (in Java, C, C++, or Perl).
* Experience using relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, DB2).
* Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline. MS Degree highly preferred.
* Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
* Intelligent and creative.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong work ethic and a high level of professionalism and integrity.
* Experience with online advertising and/or search engines is a strong plus.
