You're comparing people that were granted Visa's to people that are not granted visa's. Nice try. Unequal comparison and incredibly stupid to compare.

One is documented. The other is undocumented.

One is granted access through background checks, etc... The other is illegal crossing with no checks.

Quick - respond with a strawman before even reading this last line that I'm not in favor of ridiculous costs for building a wall and would simply rather disincentive through other means.

Assuming the linked article is accurate, there are 120k overtays from Canada, compared to 47k Mexicans. That number pales in comparison to illegal border crossings from Mexico. If they caught 415k trying to cross during that year, the actual number that crossed far exceeded 415k. That means illegal immigrants with no background checks (in fact, no checks whatsoever) coming over the southern border are a way bigger problem by orders of magnitude than illegal immigration through visa overstays. If there is any doubt, reference the number of illegal Canukistanis living here compared to the Mexicans. Are there close to 15 million Canucks living here illegally?

Personally I'm all for a sound policy that looks at all aspects -- not just a physical southern border, but a better process for legal immigration, better information on everyone that enters (to make sure they leave), better processes to check whether someone is a legal worker or not (to prevent hiring by employers of anyone here not legally) and on and on.

I read your last sentence.

As for the rest of it, about 40% (controversial estimate, but a middle of the road number) of illegal immigrants entered the country legally. Undocumented immigrant is a term that is synonymous with illegal immigrant, regardless of whether they had initial authority to enter the country. If you want to talk about 2 classes of undocumented immigrants and different policies for each, I'm all for it.

I know you're trying to be sarcastic and all, but while their ethnicity shouldn't matter, their ability to speak the language and that they come from a country with relatively similar norms to the US makes integration into the US much easier and less of a drain on the country. Either way, illegal is illegal IMO, boot them out.

Ding, ding, ding. As I said multiple times in different threads, let enforce immigration rules to EVERYONE, not just to some and ignore others and then grant amnesty to them...because of reason?

I have been to numerous countries, from developed to developing. Each and every single one of them, no exception, would kick you out if you sneak in or overstay your visa/permit. Only in America that we have Americans openly provide assistant and support to ILLEGALS and then have the nerve to call others as "xenophobics" just because those folks want to enforce immigration rules across the board.

Why bother to have rules and laws if we don't enforce them?

Why aren't the companies that hire these illegals held to the law? There are penalties now on the books but never seem to hear much about these companies getting fined and even if they do the money they save on the labor more than makes up for it. They need to start giving jail time to the owners and I guarantee the hiring will mostly stop.
