Were do computer stores buy their junk?

I am looking to do a bulk buy on some DVD-ROMs.. Just wondering where computer stores (like mom & pop stores) buy them from so I can get a decent discount since I want to buy 20-30 of them.

They buy them from wholesalers. It's actually quite easy to get the rights to buy from wholesalers, but you have to have an actual company name and stuff. This usually involves going to the county court building and getting your company registered as a real one and stuff. Then, I THINK you need a wholesaler's licence, but it's been so long since I read up on this sorta thing I'm probably wrong.

Your best bet is to go to a mom and pop store and tell them you need 20-30 of them and ask for a discount. They should be willing to give you a break.

98% of what I get is on the surplus market, but there are a few small wholesalers I deal with. Evertek, for example, has some decent prices, though you can still do better sometimes (especially on things like memory) just by hitting Pricewatch

In my experience (and I have some wholesale accounts- you can try ingram, techdata, d&h, etc) the prices are always much higher than what I can find online-retail including shipping. Thus, my wholesale accounts are largely unused. I can't remember the last time I've purchased something through them.

If you do go the wholesale route, you'll find that most wholesalers require an application to be filled out which takes a few days to process sometimes. Even then, you aren't going to get a great deal on just 20-30 cdroms and no other purchases. I'd make an educated guess that at best your price will be a few bucks higher than newegg or googlegear. [for equivalent products-you might find some older equipment at a clearance price somewhere--such as the evertek link above].

Good luck though!

God Bless Al Gore...er...I mean...The Internet!

I remember the days of buying from TechData, Ingram and others. Commerce over the internet has greatly changed that.
