Were American cars of the 30s and 40s reliable?

I'm curious. I look at American cars of the 30s and 40s and I see quality, but today's American cars are rubbish.

Are you nuts? The engines had to be rebuilt almost annually. Tire blowouts were VERY common. Only good thing was they were easy to access, and could be repaired with chewing gum, and bobby pins.

Some American cars from the 30'-40's were great cars, and
the best of them are worth Big Bucks.

They were reliable enough, but the roads beck then were not the best,so the cars were actually built to take some abuse.

I prefer a mid 50's to mid 70's American built car myself.

I won a 1964 Plymouth Valiant,

It is a rare 2 door hardtop model, with the also rare first year V8 option.

less than 6,000 built,out of 221,000 + Valiant's in 1964.
