Just got a new laptop with integrated wireless. In my old laptop I used a PCMCIA Linksys wireless card to connect to my router. Im trying to set up my wireless but I cant get it to work. It shows I am sending info but not recieving it. My laptop only shows settings for 104 bit WEP while my router shows settings for 128 (which I used with the old card).

I have an emachines 2350 which uses a Broadcom 54g Max Performance 802.11g wireless NIC. I have an Linksys 4 port wireless router (802.11b).

ipconfig says "Media disconnected" for the Ethernet Wireless Network Connection.

Since im obviously a moron someone please give me a clue.

There is no difference between the 104 and 128. "The reson for this misnomer is that the WEP key ( 40/104 bits ) is concatenated with the initialisation vector ( 24 bits ) resulting in a 64/128 bit total key size." (quote from: http://www.zyxel.com/support/supportnote/ZyAIR_B1000/app/wep.htm)

Do you have static ip setup? MAC address filtering? Have you tried using the Linksys card to connect on your new laptop? Are you using the windows setup tools or ones provided by your NIC's drivers?

I have DHCP enabled and am not using a static IP for the laptop. Ive tried both the setup provided by windows XP (home) and my NIC but for some reason when I use either it tells me my key is too long (should be either 104 or 40 bits).

does it support passphrase. If it does it would make it much easier. You might also check to see you didn't enable mac filtering.
