For those who haven't been there I definitely recommend it. It is not as zoo-like as most parks. We have season passes and it is only a 40 minute drive from my house so we go there a few times a year whenever the mood strikes and we always enjoy it.

Wild Animal Park

The Wild Animal Park houses one of only 7 Northern White Rhinos in existence on the entire planet.

Cape Buffalo

Cheetahs

Giraffe

Gorilla

Northern White Rhino

White Rhinos

What photo thread would be complete without a picture of a duck? And yes, that is my son feeding the duck.

All photos were taken by me with my Canon 30D and the 70-200mm f/4 lens. Some of the closeup shots were a little soft due to the shots being hand held and at the 200mm range...some of them were shot from a moving tram.

The Wild Animal Park also has a Camp over called Road & Snore where you camp out overnight in a tent safari style right in the middle of the park. I think that would be pretty cool and my son wants to do it so I think I'm going to have to make that happen.

Looks like a neat place.

Should've let your son feed the rhino. That would've been a more exciting picture.

They said the Rhinos are actually pretty tame and will allow handlers to go up and feed them and rub their skin down. It's the Cape Buffalo that you really have to watch out for.

Last I checked rhinos didn't reproduce asexually. I think they would have better success if they kept more than one in the same place.

Actually, you can do that. The Wild Animal Park has something called a Photo Safari. They take you out on the back of a truck in the animal area. You get to hand feed giraffes and rhinos.

As I recall the Photo Safari was around $120.
