What a great place. Kills the San Diego Zoo and pretty much any other zoo I've ever been to. I've lived in San Diego for 8+ years now and I've never been there before today. Our neighbors gave us two free passes (they are season ticket holders) and we had to pay $14 for our son's admission. We only spent about 3 hours there this afternoon and we did the tram ride tour which is free and well worth the short wait.

The park is laid out so that the animals can roam free. Obviously, they keep the predators separated from the prey but it is unlike any other place like this I've visited. Most of the zoos I've visited I actually feel bad for the animals in captivity there but here they can roam free.

Sucks that there are so many species so close to extinction. I got a couple pics of a species of rhino of which there are only 10 known remaining on the face of the planet. They will be gone in the next 50 years...:(

they have a cool program that i have always wanted to try in which you basically camp on a bluff overlooking the park, you hear all the animals during the day and at night. looks like a lot of fun.

That would be really cool! I live 30 minutes from there...I'm going to check into that.

I shot probably 50+ pictures this afternoon. I'll download them and post a few later.

Went to the main zoo not along ago and all I can say is, it sucks. Nobody wants to see 10 different types of pigs. The animals that I wanted to see aren't even out (tigers, lions, and other big cats). It's a pretty big zoo but too much of the space is devoted for animals nobody cares to see.

i find the wild animal park to be much more convenient and a more enjoyable experience than the san diego zoo. but out of all there's to offer in san diego as far as animal attractions go, i prefer sea world because the dolphin show is just too damn cool and funny.

I just bought a pass for there and the zoo. Only $32 for UCSD dollars (even though I graduated in August).

Nice...I'm thinking about going there again...haven't been there since a field trip in elementary school, but I do remember I enjoyed it more than the zoo (which I recently went to (won free passes) after having not been there since elementary school days either).

35-40 minutes. just hop on the 52, take 15 north, exit via rancho parkway and turn right. just follow the signs leading to the park.

I like the SD Zoo better, but the Wild Animal Park is a must if you have time. Can't believe you hadn't been there previously living here 8 years. :Q

It is a very nice zoo. It is even weird to call it a zoo. Zoos are like super crowded. The setting is very relaxing and if you are able to go there and not be rushed into seeing everything, it will be quite enjoyable.

I never get to see the tigers when i go there though!

*sigh*

I used to have a year round pass YEARS ago, back when they had free concerts on the grass, big names too, you could also bring your own food, and---;)

No kidding. I've been to the SD Zoo and Sea World (a few times) but never the Wild Animal Park. I think we are going to get season passes. My son had a great time!

Info on the Northern White Rhino.

i went to the Wild Animal Park and did the safari ride about 3 years ago. i absolutely loved it too.

i don't know that there is anywhere else in the U.S. where they have it so we can drive through and see those animals like that in their (close to) natural habitat. i am sure there are other parks like that, but do they compare, i guess is my question.

When I was out there a few years ago I saw them all. The park >>> zoo. I laughed my sack off at Sea World because of the show with the walrus, seal, and sea otter. The walrus had a diahrrea attack in the middle of the stage and the trainer slipped and fell face first in it. I thought I was gonna need an oxygen tank after seeing that.
